Buried in Steve Aschburner's SI column on Sebastian Telfair:

He might have to stand in line anyway, behind the people who blame him for not being as good as his cousin Stephon Marbury (at least the early Marbury) or the fix to the Blazers' or Celtics' needs -- especially after Boston removed the nameplate from above his locker when news broke of a handgun possession charge. He got blamed shortly after arriving in Minnesota for not being Rajon Rondo, the player McHale could have extracted from pal Danny Ainge in the Garnett trade if owner Glen Taylor hadn't pushed instead for an extra draft pick.
I hadn't seen this before.

I don't know if the C's get the 17th banner without Rondo, so that was quite a decision on Taylor's part.

Over the years, I've had hundreds of shots blocked. You've got to go in and take chances.

I don't buy it... Ainge was not willing to part with Rondo in that deal.

There were reports that Danny refused to include Rondo in the deal.

I read that as saying something more along the lines of Kevin COULD have gotten Rondo, meaning the writer is saying he could have negotiated to get him (which who knows, that could have been a deal breaker)

I think the only 'could' there is could have tried to negotiate harder. It seems clear that Rondo was never offered.

I don't buy it, either.  That report makes it sound like Danny valued a #1 more than he did Rondo, which seems silly to me.
