I am excited that 'Sheed will be wearing the Celtic green next year, but I wonder if this could provide somewhat of a minutes problem down the stretch between him and Perk.

I got to thinking about this signing and I can't help but think, what changed this offseason from last that we wouldn't give Posey the MLE for 4 years, but we'll give 'Sheed the MLE for 2?

The C's basically signed no one last season, and perhaps with Posey taking some minutes through the regular season maybe KG doesn't get hurt (maybe he does, but even if he does he's probably not playing as many minutes).

Also Posey is only 32 this year, while Rasheed is 35.  Rasheed has more wear and tear on his body than Posey, because he has always started and played more minutes throughout his career.  Also Posey helps us more defensively then Rasheed does, because he could guard the Lebrons, D-Wades, and Kobes.

Looking back I wish we would have loosened the MLE purse strings for Posey.  I think he would have made more sense on this team.

I almost posted this same thread earlier (typed it up but then closed it), but I had the opposite conclusion.

Would much, much rather we have Sheed now than Posey now + last year.

If we signed Posey, we'd have no money for Sheed.
God bless and good night!

Why is Sheed > Posey?

I think one of our biggest needs, is who will givee PP / Ray a break defending the opposite teams best player.

I understand that Sheed off the bench is an upgrade over what we have seen recently, but he doesn't bring something to the table that we don't already have between KG and Perk...that I can see.

he is a better player overall imo.  not to mention he is taller and helps our big man issues of last season, a better scorer (which is invaluable coming off the bench), can space the floor.  he plays at a "near all star" level....while posey is a great role player.

So I definately agree he is a better overall player, but he is older now, this isn't the Sheed of old...I was looking over his statistics and there is a great drop off in his production (particularly shooting percentage) from when he went from Portland to Detroit.  I don't know if this is in regards to him shooting more threes or what, but that sort of concerned me.  While I do think it will be good to have a proven guy that can score off the bench, I don't know if we will be able to stop Lebron and/or Kobe individually, without losing all of Paul or Ray's energy towards that effort, rather than having them fresher on the offensive side of the ball.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Bigmen > Swingmen

Former Allstars > Bench/roleplayer

Scorer > Spot Up Shooter

...at least it works this way most of the time.

he is older, but his role wouldnt be the same.  he would be coming off the bench.  plus he is a 2 year deal.

when we beat the cavs and lakers we didnt stop lbj or kobe individually....we did it collectively.  no one person can guard either of them. if u put a solid defender and surround him with excellent team defense....they are contained.  case in point, banner 17

This my friends is 1 reason why we didn't reign Posey.... Going into this year, who would you rather have? Posey or Sheed?

Even last year, Sheed was far superior to Posey.

Reason 2: Ainge didn't want to go 4 years with Posey (who now has 3 years left). Wallace is on board for 2 years. The team still has great flexibility after the remaining 2 year run for another banner.

Give me Sheed all the way. Sheed at the 4 or 5 is better than Posey at the 3 or 4.

Given that Garnett hurt his knee and that we couldn't repeat without him, Sheed is better. But had Garnett been healthy I would have taken Posey and his long contract over two years of Sheed.

But I still understand Danny's decisions last year, they just didn't work out. Getting Sheed is huge, he is a massive upgrade to our backup center/forward positions.

Posey for 3 last year will expire when Wallace for 2 this year.

I disagree. Give me Posey. He was a big part of a championship team, lots of spirit, great defense, and clutch.
It's not always strictly about pure talent, or numbers.
That said, I have no problem with Wallace being on the C's, he's a hell of a player.

Posey has a very very limited offensive game. Sheed stretches the court, and can score just about anywhere. I'll take Sheed over Posey any day of the week.

Posey was a role player on two championship winning teams.
Sheed was arguably the biggest piece of the puzzle for one championship team.
