Sign Powe, then use Scals as a stop gap until Leon recovers.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
I'd look into signing Joe Smith, if BBD leaves.  He's the only big man I can think of who may be available for the minimum who could fill BBD's role.

There are other good players -- Wilcox, Rasho, Zaza -- but they're all going to command way more than we have.

Also, I agree with Jeff:  bring back Powe.  (I'm thinking we get Robert Swift, though.)

Roy, can someone else sign Swift while he is playing for our summer league team?

Yes.  I don't think there's any contract in place, so he's free to sign with anybody he wants to.

I don't really care who is the 11th and 12th guy on roster. These guys will ride the pine all year long, baring any major injuries. And even if someone does get injured, we will have someone else by trade deadline. Basically they will never play.

It'd be unusual though, usually summer league players if they're signed at all go with their team. At least I've never heard of a FA bidding war for a summer league quality guy.

Bobby Brown last summer. He was on the Hornets SL team, Hornets wanted to keep him, Sacramento ponied up more money to get him.

It is rare though. Not something to be concerned about.

I sure hope so; he didn't play much on the Spurs last year :)

Clarification; "lockdown" isn't a requirement (they aren't going to be matched against LeBron for forty minutes), but someone who can play D for 10-15 minutes at the wings IS.  Rather have someone with a limited offensive game who can play D than vice-versa.  Quinton Ross sounds about perfect for this spot, if Billy Walker isn't ready.

I still want Hakim Warrick.

He seems like less of a risk than oft-injured 35 year old Grant Hill.  Also, he is someone who we could actually keep around for a few years.

Then I hope we can re-sign Powe, but some other team will likely pay more.

I think we are all set at backup pg with House, Pruitt and Hudson.  I have never seen Hudson play, but for some reason I think he can crack the rotation...

How are you going to get Warrick?   Sign him to the LLE and Memphis matches.   You can't do much with Davis in a S/T unless they take on contracts, which I don't believe are in a position to do.

You can knock Warrick off your wish list. His qualifying offer is better then then anything the Celtics can offer. At this point the restricted free agents are no longer approachable for the C's. All we have is the LLE and minimum deals now.

Trades are a possibility, but as been noted sign and trades w Davis are going to be near impossible due to the base year rules.

After the core rotation guys, I'd reserve a roster spot or two for a guy who defensively (like the Bird said) can cut it.  Specifically, I'd take a flyer on someone with the physicality to throw at LBJ/Artest for some minutes.

I keep thinking Pops Mensah-Bonsu would be a good developmental guy.  He's smart, and quick for his size.
