Quote
Celtics GM Danny Ainge told Paul Pierce that Rajon Rondo would not be traded, Pierce told Jeff Goodman of WEEI.com and FoxSports.com. “Danny [Ainge] told me and told Kevin [Garnett],” Pierce said. “We knew he wasn’t going to be traded.”

good to hear someone besides danny say this...because danny is terrible with the media, and as a result, no one ever believes him.

Why didn't Danny told it to Ray, too? :P

Just kidding. Another good news for us, and I'm sure Rondo's teammates did their best with Danny to keep Rajon with the Celtics.

I'm not quite sure what this means but, most knew he wasn't being traded.  In fact Danny said it but, no one believes him...

Danny is sitting in his office fielding calls this morning with John Lennon's "Mind Games" turned down real low on his MP3 player.   ;D

no one believes him because he's misled us through the media before...why wouldn't he do it again? but if he's telling his players that someone isn't being dealt, that carries a little more weight with it. last i checked, no one assumed we weren't trading rondo, even though he spoke through the media and said it. we all thought he was playing mind games with us and trying to boost rondo's trade value for a deal with memphis or detroit.

I said it before and I will say it again. Rondo was never going anywhere unless Chris Pauls name was in the equation. I believe in the next year that Rondo will take over more games then any other Celtic, at leaast on offense. He will continue to improve and by years end he will be considered a top 3 point. When the playoffs are over next season there will be a lot of talk about him possibly being the best point in the league. Scoring points and making shots does not make for the best point. Magic Johnson proved you do not have to be an excellent shooter to be an excellent point.

Rondo was definitely on the block...but only for good deals like the Memphis and Detroit ones.

I liken Rondo's career trajectory to that of Gary Payton.  Not the GP who played for us.  No, I'm talking about The Glove.  He was similarly derided as a PG who couldn't shoot, and had a bit of an attitude.  Eventually he matured and became the most dominant 2-way PG in the league in the 90's.  He even came close to swiping an MVP trophy from Jordan a few times (99-02) and led his teams to the Finals and multiple 60-win seasons.

I see Rondo having many similar attributes to the Glove, except Gary was a bit more of a scorer, and Rajon is better on the boards.  Take a look at GP's stats and tell me you don't think it's possible for Rondo to have this kind of success:

No all of us.  He was doing what a lot of GMs do with young ultra talented head strong players.  Putting  them in their proper place.  He's way too talented to move.
