No wagon for me! In fact, if there was a poll to ask who the exact antithesis of a Celtic would be..... my top name would be Wallace. I have disliked his game and his attitude since college. Red would NEVER have wanted him on this team and I don't either. Sorry.
A guy that plays defense, athletic, tall, is unselfish, and his teammates love him.
Yeah, I could see why Red wouldn't want him.
He is the perfect fit because
a) he plays defense. The Celtics are a defensive team 1st.
b) he is tall. Must have on the bench. Works well with both starters and Davis/Powe/Scali
c) he is unselfish. He has always put winning over his own stats. That is what the Celtics stars do.
If you can't see why Red wouldn't want him on the C's then you are blind or are ignoring his major faults.
Red took chances on players with prickly personalities and reputations for being a "cancer"; one such player was Dennis Johnson.
The concern with Rasheed is that he seemed to quit on the Pistons this year. *That* isn't necessarily the type of character flaw that you want to overlook (although it worked for the Pats with Randy Moss.)
I don't see the similarities with Randy Moss and I'm aware of his stint in LA (which was a horrible situation for everyone). Sheed has directly cost his team several points at crucial times in games because he has horrible attitude. Moss also was being still at the top of his game can produce enough to make you forget about his transgressions. As bad rap as Randy Moss ever got I never looked at him like I do Sheed.
The front office cost the team.
1) fired a competent coach that was getting the team to the conference finals every year.
2) Hired a 1st time NBA head coach that lasted one season
3) Traded away their PG. He made it to a conference final again this season on a team that had been a one and doner.
4) Replaced their PG with a shoot first small, aging SG. He has been on many one and done teams recently. Detroit became a one and doner.
So on a bad team, he didn't give it his all.
But every year when he was on a good team, he did.
Celtics are a very good team.
