Remember when the Nets were trying to get Lebron? They were moving to Brooklyn and Lebron's buddy Jay-Z was their owner. Then we stopped hearing about this. Any chance that the Nets trade up in the draft to get another Lebron buddy, Stephon Curry and then have enough cap space to sign Lebron and Bosh/Amare next year? I will include Amare, b/c I have read he wants to go to NY, and Brooklyn is in NY :)

Harris
Lee
Lebron
Amare
Lopez

With Curry as the third guard would be tough. Are the Nets sleepers for Lebron?

Especially with the Jay-Z connection I thought they were always seen as the most likely place he'd end up other than Cleveland. That's not really what a "sleeper" is. A sleeper would be like, if Milwaukee or somebody nobody expected had quietly put together an awesome pitch for Lebron.

Other teams would have to put together the chance to sign a few other big players, but the Nets have been doing nothing but angling for Lebron for years now. They want him to be the first face of the Brooklyn Knights and that has been the plan practically as long as they've planned on moving.

Well I agree that initially they weren't a sleeper. But then the construction in Brooklyn got postponed and it really became a two team race between the Knicks and Cavs, so I would say the Nets are the sleeper that the Knicks and Cavs should look out for. I believe they will have more money to offer two FA's than the Knicks and we'll see who has the better young talent to compliment Lebron. I'm sure James will be over playing with over the hill teammates after they get bounced again next year. Chad Ford touched on the fact that Lebron has not been surrounded ever with good young players his age (like Durant) in his podcast interview with Bill Simmons on Tuesday.

i never thought they would find a taker for the carter contract without having to take salary back in return.  the big obstacle before today for Nets signing Lebron was their salary cap situation.

Sleepers?

Lebron is tight with Jay-Z, a Nets owner.  He he said openly he'd campaign for Bron.
The Kidd trade was an indication they're clearing cap space.
The new Brooklyn arena for the Nets just got approved.

I'd say they are the favorite.
God bless and good night!

Yes, the Nets are major players in the free agency sweepstakes.

The combination of Harris and Lopez + massive cap space, will give them a great chance at putting a contender out on the floor. Their next two lottery picks (this year and next) will also be important factors.

They are way more than a sleeper.  Jay-z has been tight with him since before he was drafted and was in high school and got the sneaker deal. I'd say it goes like this

1) NJ
2)Cleveland
3) NY

in that order
