Ron Artest

He would back up Pierce and Allen with great defense and toughness keeping them all fresh for the playoffs.  He would get starter minutes from the 6th man position.  He could also play some spot minutes at the 4.  He brings scoring punch off the bench.  Basically, he is a rich man's James Posey.

why on earth would he take a massive paycut to play for us for the MLE in a backup role when Houston loves him?

I heared whispers on Allen Iverson
You've only heard whispers? I've been shouting it.

i know the gut reaction is he's a poor fit / doesn't wanna be a back-up. But would AI come to Boston to back up Rondo / Ray to win a championship? Would he do it for half the MLE? It's an interesting question

He just torpedo'd being a 6th man in Detroit and said if he can't get a starting gig he'll retire, so i'd put the chances pretty low.

I will give it to you that Perk makes the same faces, but his defense is around three or four times better than Zaza, and now that he added a jump hook and a little turn around (plus his already good offensive rebounding) he is three time the player Zaza could ever pray to be, so i'll take the faces with him.  I wouldn't like it if we always saw those faces with Scal, but I'd take it with Garnett.

Artest I love, and I think money would be the only problem.  I don't even think the minutes would really bother him, and he'd get minutes.  There is nothing the guy can't do, and he's one of the smartest players in the league.  If you add him and Gortat , and stay at least REASONABLY healthy, we win a championship hands down, no contest.

I would absolutely love Ron Artest, he'd be the best fit for us, probably better than Marion.

Artest seems to have turned it around/pulled it together but his actions at the Palace that fateful night will always haunt me.

I love his desire and toughness though.

There are obviously obstacles to Artest, but he's just kooky enough that it makes me think it is possible.  He's never been overpaid in salary, and never seemed that concerned about it either.  So maybe MLE money would work for him.  He does seem to like it in Houston, but who knows, maybe he sees a better chance of winning a title in Boston.  I could also see him as the type of guy to have a huge man-crush on KG, and I know he has always respected Pierce's game and vice versa as they have had some epic head to head match-ups.  I just think he would be a perfect on-court fit and real boost to our team and we should kick the tires.  If the Rockets trade for Amare and try to re-sign him, maybe they need to save some money and let Artest walk.
