at what point do the Spurs blow up the team?  I think there's still a 3-5 year window if not more, but the core is getting older:

Bowen - 38
Duncan - 33
Manu - 32
Parker - 27

At some point they're going to have to say, we build around Tony...or we don't...unless they find a way to get a top pick and extend Duncan like they did when he came in and played with DROB

I think Duncan may be moved in the next year or 2 if things don't pan out - but he does have a 20+ mil per year contract...

ideas, thoughts? Not saying we can get him (although maybe an expiring contract ina  year or two does it?), just saying I wonder if they  move him someday

Duncan will retire a Spur.

I think most likely they'd trade Manu or even Parker for younger pieces / draft picks.

I think the Spurs will be a solid team again in a couple years, though maybe not while Duncan is a dominant player.

I do think the Spurs window is shut or very close to shutting.  At least with this current incarnation.  However, if they were healthy last season who knows what kind of damage they could have down in the Western playoffs.

If the team remains healthy in '09-'10 (and thats a big "if"), then they can still make a run.  I'm just not sure it can happen.

Also, you see a couple of teams on the rise in the West so its certainly not gonna get any easier for San Antonio.

i think the spurs have gotten a little full of themselves in the front office too. they let scola go. beno udrih would have been a nice backup in my opinion. they did'nt WANT vince carter. is that correct?

Its obvious that they should trade us Duncan for Ray. Duncan's got three years left on his deal and Ray is expiring this year. ;)

The Spurs need to blow up their supporting cast.

Their core is still immensely strong. The problems lie elsewhere.

If I were the Spurs, I'd give some strong consideration to blowing it up now, depending upon what other teams would give them for their $30+ million in expiring contracts.  If they could get a good return for Manu, I'd think about it.

Of course, that's from an outside, objective stand point.  If I were a Spurs fan, I'm sure there would be some serious attachment issues there.

Duncan and Parker are not available.

Everyone else should be available.
