Joe Smith-The Cavs will need to resign Verajao so this makes Joe Smith staying with Cleveland unlikely. He has said Boston was on the short list of teams he wanted to play for. He is good friends with KG and with BBD probably outpricing himself and Leon missing the first half of the season,, their is a roster spot for him. More importantly he is a tweener that can play two positions. This saves us money and allows us to address another need. If we resign BBD, we will still need to add length. Joe Smith brings alot of the things that PJ brought us in rebounding, defense, hitting the open 15 footer, smarts, veteran leadership, and he's a team player. All the factors I listed above and the state of the economy may allow us to get him on the cheap.
Trevor Ariza-This may be a long shot since he probably despises the Celtics by now but I think he somewhat fills the Posey role. The Lakers will not be able to sign both Odom and Ariza. Again what I like is that he's a tweener capable of playing the SG and SF position. Again this saves us money by not spending for two positions. He comes at a higher priced though and I have no idea what our cap situation is. He's a young player that can become a foundation piece for us. I like the idea of having 3 young defensive players to build on (Rondo & Perk included). He has shown that he can be a threat from 3 and he would be able to give Paul and Ray a breather especially against the likes of Lebron and Kobe.
I'd also like to resign House and Powe. This would leave us with a second unit of House, Pierce/R Allen, Ariza, Powe and Smith. We would still need a backup PG who can keep the offense flowing. Marbury will probably be too expensive but who knows. I could live with a Lindsey Hunter or a Tyronn Lue.
If Detroit is willing to shed some of its players to rebuild, I would make a run at Prince. He like Ariza is a versatile defender with great length. Don't know how we would afford him though.
I would like to have Rasheed but I think its unrealistic that we could afford his asking price.
