The Patriots will get 3 compensatory picks in the 3rd, 5th, 6th rounds: http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2009/03/pats_get_three.html

The most important one is the 3rd rounder, which was the highest compensatory pick overall (#97 overall -- I assume due to Asante Samuel).
Celtics fan for life.

I can't wait till the draft. 11 overall draft picks, 6 in the top 100 picks, and 4 on the first day. The pats have a great chance here to put together a good team for a long time.

Not to mention this is said to be one of the deepest drafts in a while.

Players to watch for me are:

First rounders: Ray Maulauga, Chris Sintim, Percy Harvin, and Brian Cushing
2nd Rounders: Sean Smith, Connor Barwin, Larry English, Darrius Heyward-Bay , Lesean Mccoy, Alphonso Smith, and Brandon Pettigrew

I also think the pats need to adress the offense line situation in the draft, but i don't know much about the ones in the draft. But with the age of Stephen Neal, and the contract situation of matt light (plus dan koppen is always hurt.)

I look forward to it though.

Dont get too excited about all the picks.  BB will (I would almost guarantee it) trade at least 2-3 of the picks for future draft picks (and I wouldn't be surprised to see the 2nd rounder go for a future first rounder).  There is nothing like the let down of watching the entire draft, getting to the Pats, being excited X player is still on the board, only to hear they have moved the pick for a pick next year (although from a team building sense, it is genius - just not what the fans want to see).  Also, compensatory picks cant be traded...just to make sure everyone knows that.

As for your players, I think you are a bit off.  Maualuga is doubtful to be available unless we trade up.  Same with Harvin (and I doubt the pats would use a first rounder on a WR)

as for the guys you list in the second round, Bey is likely to be a first rounder (although, I think he has bust written all over him...I dont like any WR that isnt highly rated until he runs very fast.)
from most of what I have seen, most mock drafts (which likely mean nothing) seem to have smith, english, barwin, and pettigrew going in the first round also.  maybe one of them slides to our first pick in the second round, but I doubt we will have a lot of choices between them.

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
I think DJ Moore will slide to the 2nd round pick we got from KC.  After watching him play for 3 years at Vandy, I would be excited to get a playmaker like him on board.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

Show me the mock drafts. I haven't seen a single mock draft with connor barwin in the first round, also there are like 5 wr who are projected to be in the first round, and there is not a demmand for that many first rounder. Likewise there aren't many mock drafts i've seen with smith or english projected or picked in the first round.

The reason i have ray mauluaga on my list is because of the injury he had at the combine with the poor performance that came along with it is causing him to slip a bit on alot of peoples list.

And trust me, i know prolly half of the picks in place will be traded in some manner. But the good thing about having so many picks like we do is that we can make those trades while still having those young incoming players for next season. Lots of people like to try to look at what the patriots do in the past as an indicator to what their going to do, while in reality what keeps this team in contention is that they are always changing up there strategy.

I.E. The patriots were said to never draft linebackers in the first round, and the bill belicheck didn't like young linebacks. And he drafted two in Jerod Mayo in the first round and Shawn Crable later on.

Its impossible to predict what the pats are going to do. And theres no guarantee the pats will trade the picks they have this year. Cuz if theres a player on the board BB likes he's gonna take him. We just don't know who those players are.

Yah, i like any of the usc linebackers, and i think darius butler is good too. It looks like we'll be able to get some real good value at cb and lb in the draft, there are just so many of the same talent players in the first and second round. which is why it was so smart to get a early second rounder instead of a mid to late first.

Harvin is shooting up the draft board with a great pro day.  If he can return punts I would love to take a chance but they'd have to move up to the teens.

I like Alphonso even though he is 5 9.  He had 22 ints for a cb, that's unbeleivable.

Clay Mathews I'd take, also English and Cushing.

They worked out Pat White and he could be interesting in a wild cat system, but I'd take him with our 3rd pick not our first 2.

I love the draft, I think we should do a top 10 mock draft with the winner getting those coveted tommy points, ANYONE INTERESTED???

I am not saying any of these guys are right...but the 'consensus' tends to be that a lot of the guys you were talking about are first rounders (and I tend to stay away from random fan mock drafts, because the experts are bad enough at getting the picks right and they have some shred of inside info)

As for Barwin - I was incorrect there, although given the recent rocketing stock, I wouldnt be surprised. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/03/21/cincinnatis-barwin-in-demand/
