This is for all the Businessmen on celticsblog.  I am currently looking at internships for this summer and i am a junior and a finance major at providence college.  I live in Connecticut but i am willing to get an internship in Boston or Providence or possibly southern maine.  I am basically looking for any paid internship that involves insurance, banking, financial services, or marketing.  Can any of you give me some advice or some recommendations on what kind of internships are still available at possible company's that you work for or just any direction i should be heading in?

tough areas to grab a paid internship in right now...I think you are probably looking at best case scenario of unpaid.

I think one of the best pieces of advice I can give you is try and see if you can hook on with the marketing guys for PC (Nelligan Sports Marketing).  I know the company that they use is pretty small, but they are spread out at a few different schools so you may get lucky.

Good luck

If you like the insurance business and financial services business, you should check out Northwestern Mutual.  They have a top 10 internship rated by Vault Magazine, and a top 5 ranking from CNN Money.  Just know that it will be commission based.

I have worked with Northwestern for 4 years.  It's not an easy career, but if you are good at it you will be extremely happy.

Good luck.

My son is going into his last year at Northeastern where the ciriculum requires co-operative education. That means three internships during your years there. He is in computer engineering, which is about the easiest discipline to get a great paying internship in and had trouble finding one this last December. He got one and he loves it.

But many and many of his college friends didn't. And that's across all disciplines and majors. Some even were let go after about a month because of the alck of work in those companies. He has friends who are now working at Walmart and local supermarkets to make ends meet because they got no co-op.

I wish you luck but not only do you have a discipline that will be extremely difficult to find a paid internship in but even after graduation, that area is going to be going through mass contraction and have big layoffs.
