does an injury to KG help or hurt our chances of getting Joe Smith?

At first, I thought well I guess that kills the idea of Smith coming here because he will want to go to the team that has the best chance of winning it all, but then i thought maybe he would actually like getting the increased PT at first and then moving to the bench when KG is healthy...

for us, Smith could be an even huger acquisition in terms of getting KG ready for the playoffs. I could easily see him holding the fort down like Posey did last year when KG went down with the abdominal injury...

let's hope KGs injury isn't going to plague him the rest of the season and let's hope that JS actually would relish the chance to get some serious minutes on the Cs down the stretch here and not be scared off by the potential of KG being hobbled the rest of the way....

as a note - obviously we don't know what exactly the deal with KGs knee is, but either way, I actually hope that they put him on the shelf for a while even if it is just a tweak because as they have already acknowledged, the knee has been bothering him for a while..

I think if the injury is serious, it hurts our chances of landing Joe Smith. We are not going to win a championship, or even go deep in the playoffs, with a seriously injured KG. I was wondering the same thing, thanks for the post.

I don't think it affects out chances at all.  KG should be ok by the time the playoffs start.  If anything, the injury would mean more playing time for Smith.

yeah, i agree on the serious part.... although that seems less likely at this point. and by serious i mean season ending..

but it does seem like it could be a problem that could linger...especially if he can't get significant rest over the next month.

right now i'm wondering if his knee problem is bone on bone/cartilage-related (a la Wally) or ligament related...

yeah, i tend to agree with you, but i wonder if that is just wishful thinking on my part.

but if Smith could come in here and we could get KG like two or three weeks of just complete and total rest, it could be huge for our playoff run.

and strangely would actually get Smith quickly into a groove with the rest of the team. also it would allow Doc to keep BBD and Leon in the roles that they are best suited for...

and i think Smith would also allow us to have a legit chance to keep the best record in the East even without KG playing for a bunch of games.....

I'm not sure there is any other way to keep HC and get KG the rest he needs over the next month or so...

I wish we could just press the FF button on this and get to that March 1 deadline...

I really want Joe Smith on the team for this year and in the future.  If Joe Smith were on the team right now I would do the same as winsomme puts.  Smith can start in KG's place (with defensive understanding) and while he is not the same player I think we wouldn't miss a beat.  A bit but not as bad as leon or davis starting.  Let KG rest up.  My guess is this is a slight ligament tear, lateral miniscus?  It will hurt but he can play the season with it.  I hope its a "sprain" but.....
Anyways I'd love smith and rather have the 3rd best record in east but have everyone healthy and rested for playoffs!

Yeah I agree with everything you just said.  I'd much rather be 100% rested and healthy than go all out for home court.  Luckily Cleveland didn't make any moves to make them more scary.  If we are healthy and get Smith and maybe one more guy, I think we should beat everyone with home court or without.

I agree. I think the injury is irrelevant unless it's serious enough to take KG out of the playoffs.

And if it is that serious then Joe Smith will sign with a team that has a better shot at winning a ring. But, it'll hardly matter to the C's at that point.
