I actually like it because:

1. it gets Marion another run in D'Antoni's system
2. the Heat get a veteran PG
3. the Blazers save a year on Blake's salary
4. Marbury gets cut and we pick him up

so maybe it isn't pointless, but it sure is far fetched

Portland actually uses Steve Blake though and likes him... They are far too young a team to bring in a guy like Marbury, and they'd need a backup vet PG in the deal. Marbury's not it, and, as we all know, the market is relatively thin for that particular commodity.

Yeah, Blake is a much better player and fit for Portland right now than Starbury would be.  No way they trade him.

d'antoni's tired of marion, chandler's his new marion. the brad miller / kenny thomas for marbury trade makes more sense to me for them, and steph then gets cut and signs with us or elsewhere.

speaking of 3 month rentals -- jeff, you liked my memphis trade idea. curious if you still like it if it's leon and TA (and the rights to our young Turk if neccessary) for warrick and ross. it makes us more reliant on baby as a d situational specialist, but i think i can live with that if we actually get two guys who could play key roles. i think memphis might actually do this deal. if they pull the trigger on the alexander and sessions for conley deal i can definately see them doing it. doesn't leon look kinda shaky these days? how much are we really gonna pay the guy in the off-season?

Three month rental or not, the Knicks are giving up a player who they have sent home, and many teams have already said they won't even touch if he is bought out, and signs for the minimum for a borderline All-Star.  You don't think Portland, or Cleveland, or 10 other teams wouldn't offer more, even if it was just for the opportunity to sign and trade Marion, for much more value, in the offseason?

I just don't get this thinking about him.  Has he all of a sudden lost his talent?

Marion wanting out of Phoenix always seemed so ludicrous to me. There was always rumblings that he wanted to go elsewhere and be the man.

That whole team was always so grumpy. and could they have had it any better for them?

They played virtually no defense and scored all night long.....Joe Johnson, Marion, Amare, Q...so much dissatisfaction from players that could not have been in better situations.

The only way Portland does something like this is if they pre-buy out Marbury with a formal legal agreement that the entire states of Oregon and Washington become Marbury-Free Zones. 

There is no way Portland coaching and management could fumigate or sanitize their franchise if Marbury gets within striking distance of this team.  It's too young and going in too good a direction to have brain-dead idiots screwing it up.

I was just surprised after I looked at it how much sense it made for some of the parties

the thing is, we can bet something stupid like this will happen (though probably not this complex or necessarily consisting of these teams/players) because teams will do anything to move money around

Raef's contract would be partially paid (I believe) by insurance, so some cheap team might trade for him just for that reason
