I am watching the TNT late game, and at halftime Barkley and Kenny the Jet were talking about the state of the NBA, and Barkley just made some pretty strong comments, as he usually does. He said that the NBA as a league is getting weaker, and that no team in todays NBA, including the 21-2 Celtics, could not even come close to beating the Bulls of the 90's or the Celtics and Lakers of the 80's.

He even went on to say that he wishes HIS Suns from the 90's were playing now because then he would get a ring. I think that is pretty ridiculous.

I think the Celtics could at least compete with the 90's Bulls, and I think the league is becoming stronger than it was a few years ago.

Charles is just a "grumpy old man" as Ernie Johnson said....

those 90's Suns specifically that 93 team was indeed very good had it not for the Bulls then they would have at least won once, but Charles is a has been and had all his chances to win a ring but he bungle it. KG, Allen And PP deserved their's and Barkley is just jealous as he ain't got no Bling to show.

of course they do have a chance... the defense now can stop whatever offense the bulls have (lakers now) and the run gun lakers / celtics of the 80's did.

if it's a shootout no defense game, then we have no chance at all. otherwise, this team's D can kill any team from any era, imo.

Well we will never know. Personally I think the C's could be the 80's Celtics because I believe players have learned from those guys and have improved. Defense has come so far since those days if you watch the games..

Of course these kind of hypotheticals depend on so much. Would the 80's C's get to watch the "every single offensive move" footage of opposing players like they do today? Would they get a year to work with strength coaches and new training methods and so on?..

If it's just drop the 80s Cs in vs. the 2008 C's - I think the modern team wins. If its not just that..it might be a different story. This is sacriledge but I think Bird would get smoked by Pierce. Ray Allen would beat up on Ainge. And DJ would have a tough time with Rondo.. The 80's Cs though would do very well with the McHale Garnett matchup and the Parish vs. Perkins matchup. I think those guys games translate well..

I like Chuck, but he's kidding himself. As one of the greatest to play the game, and when the game was at its best I might add, he's trying to savour something. I agree in the sense that the talent around the league has gone down some, but this Celtics team has the chance to be as good as any.

I wonder, if the Lakers or Cavs were 21-2 having played the teams we've played, if they'd be getting more media love than us. I think so.
