I wasn't really crazy about any of these CD's. If we're doing strictly hip hop I'd take Lupe's - The Cool over all of them. I thought American Gangster was somewhat overrated and I don't really care for Lil Wayne. If I had to take one of those options I'd go Nas.

Overall I'd have to throw in Vampire Weekend, Raconteurs, REM, and My Morning Jacket before I got to a hip hop album.

How about changing the title
of the thread to Hip Hop Album
of the Year? This is kind of
misleading...

Agreed. If you are talkin about number of albums sold, i think it'll be lil wayne. Although i think Jeezy's new album will do well.
if we are talking about all genre of music, cold play has to be up there..

Lupe and Weezer got my simultaneous votes.

I gotta go with The Cool by Lupe.   A close second is Nas-Untitled.

The Raconteers, you mean Jack White Lite.  It's like if Elvis joined the Moody Blues.  I'm not comparing Jack White to Elvis but you get the point.

The Cool wins, but I liked American Gangster a lot.  There wasn't any radio play but the cd has about 6 songs that are really good.

Thw White Stripes (Jack White telling Meg to bang the drums a certain way while he does the rest) are unpredictable and raw, some of it is loud and angry some of it is soft and sweet.  It's like a child throwing a tantrum, then sweetly asking for ice cream.  I like it.

The Raconteers is like the same child but in military school.  I don't like it.

As far as hip hop goes, none of the above.

If you can go back far enough to include American Gangster, an over rated album from an over the hill rapper who peaked two decades ago...

You can at least have a "none of the above".

It's as if THOSE were the only hip hop albums dropped this year.

Especially since The Roots- Rising Down deaded every single album on that list.

As for straight up album of the year, might as well throw this out there.

The new Mars Volta.

Where's Lupe Fiasco - The Cool? Well, I voted for Nas (Untitled) because the other albums were bad. American Gangster was one of Jay's worst album. Some good songs but compared to his other albums, it's bad.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

1. Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
2. Coldplay - Viva La Vida
haven't heard the new Weezer album but I'm sure it would be in my top 3, i love Weezer. Other than that this year hasn't been too good for my taste in music.
