TP guava wrench, good stuff. And you are 100% on about many of your points, especially about his sources. But for a man that knows what he knows to even consider such a source credible says something to me.

Of course, he could just be a crack pot, too! LOL

I'm going to put my feet in the shoes of the Aliens:

I'm a part of a race of species millions of years old, or old enough/smart enough to advance technology enough to travel through space faster then the speed of light.

Why would I come to Earth and not:

-Show myself to everyone, and not be a secret.

-Teach Humans our technology so that they may join us in inter galaxy trade and meet the rest of the species from around the galaxy, and fix the growing environmental problem Earth has.

-Conquer everyone and harvest the planet for resources.

Instead, we come all this way and agree to accomplish nothing but remain a secret and neither race gains from millions of years of developed space travel.

--

Too imply there are Aliens that have visited Earth is too imply that,

A: They weren't smart enough to realize they would die in our amostsphere and every time they tried we got lucky and a government official found the space pod before a regular person.

B: They struck a deal with our high ranking officials.. in America or, leaders all over the world? to agree to keep themselves a secret from regular Earth people at what gain, and somehow anyone with proof which could be a lot of people is able to keep it secret despite it being the biggest secret the world has ever known.

I dont know, I dont buy it

Perhaps as an advanced species they view us as a very undeveloped species who still finds it necessary to engage in war. Perhaps they are afraid of, for lack of a better analogy, putting a loaded gun in the hands of 3 year old.

Just the fact we would engage the thought of trade or commerce with them shows how undeveloped we are. I seriously doubt that commerce is even necessary in an advanced society. If they can traverse the universe, what would they need that we have that they can't get on any of a billion other planets just like ours.

Perhaps they are waiting for us to either grow up or die as a species before they decide to give us the keys to the car.

Alright, perhaps they wont teach us anything.

So as an Alien I'm not going to teach you anything. I'm not even going to prove to your society that I exist. I'm simply going to watch from a distance and wait until one day when your species dies out to do something then, maybe.  I wont intervene in your way of life in any way possible.

I guess that is possible, seems a little boring, but possible of course.

Possibilities:

1 - You might have only sent a single unmanned probe to multiple potential planets.
2 - You might have visited 100k years ago and found people too simplistic to communicate with, so you took the approach of don't disrupt. Imagining crusades with nuclear weapons is scary enough, and that is only bringing technology back half a millennium.
3 - Being so advanced could also mean morally advanced in ways we can't anticipate
4 - Other life forms would still have limited resources. They can't send ships to every potentially inhabited planet every 100 years.

There's plenty more you can come up with...

Great stuff by everyone on this post.  Very interesting stuff to take up time in the offseason.

Nick mentioning a species that could be a billion years ahead of us in evolution a great point.  Imagine how the world will be in 1,000 years, let alone a billion?  Hopefully there are still humans around.

This might be something for another post, but there are also theories (or crackpot theories) that these "aliens" are actually advanced humans that have figured out time travel.  That could be a reason to not present themselves to us.  I think it's far fetched but it's something else that gets the mind going.

TP to Nick for his posts and Cordobes for the history lesson.  I had no idea the perception of world being flat was a myth.
