I just checked the baseball scores from today and was instinctively excited to see that while the Sox had gone ahead, Carlos Pena had hit a home run to tie it up for the Rays against the Yankees. My immediate impulse was to be happy that the Yankees lost their lead, then seconds later, I realized I actually should want the Yankees to win this game so the Sox can gain on the first place Rays.

Of course this could all be shortsighted if the Rays falter and the Yanks stay hot.  It's definitely odd to be chasing Tampa, but it's so great to have a 3 team race going.

I think this is the first time in my whole life that I'm rooting for the Yankees in a series.

We win our games, Ray's lose theirs... we close the gap between us and them, but keep the same gap between us and the Yankees.

If we lose though, maybe I root for the Rays since I don't want the Yanks gaining ground on us.

It's a double-edged sword.

weird huh?  I think I need to stick with my instinct and pull for the Rays on the theory that they'll eventually fade and the Yankees will be there in the end.  The Yanks are flawed, but they just keep on finding ways to recover from crappy starts to their seasons.

I say "GO RAYS"

I'm rooting for the Rays.  I hope they make the playoffs, along with the Sox.  There's nothing more I'd like to see than Steinbrenner and the Yanks coming in third behind Tampa.

This is all too confusing... I'm watching the scores and my mind and body can't make up their mind on who they're rooting for. My head says Yanks, heart says Rays... when watching the for the updates I'm consiously thinking for the Yanks, yet I'm pulling for the Rays.

Yeah, I don't know if what I wrote made any sense.

With about 70 games in the season, I'm not too worried right now.  If the Sox can keep it 2-4 games going into the All Star break and Papi comes back, they should be able to overcome the Rays no matter what happens in this series.
