Someone break this down, and give me your opinion of who is gone, who stays, who do the Celtics chase in free agency or try to trade.
Good Luck and a TP for the best answer.

Hard to say at the moment, I would need to see how this free-agency season goes about to get a better idea of what the team has in mind.

I'll say this, I'd be a bit surprised if Ray and Pierce aren't still on the team, unless the team is underperforming or Ainge finds extreme value for them.  I really see them still on the team as long as they can still produce...

Kendrick and Rondo will clearly be around.  I think the Celtics will make a good effort to lock up Powe too.  Glen Davis is in a bit of a limbo as far as I'm concerned... I wouldn't be surprised if they'd try to trade him.  Gabe Pruitt, we don't have enough information on him as to what he'll be able to contribute to this team... I think we'll get a good idea on it next season.  He has a team option till 2010.

Brian Scalabrine, I think the team will make a good effort to move him this offseason unless they find themselves in a need to fill the roster, but I think they'll try to move him just to find a place were he'd be capable of playing and at the same time the Celtics can acquire something from him (probably being paired up with Tony Allen or Davis in a trade... maybe even Pruitt).

James Posey, it'll all depend on this offseason... I really don't see ourselves paying a whole lot more for him if he opts out of the contract, so it'll all depend on that. I really don't know what he'll do... but from a personal standpoint, he'll probably opt out and try to get a better contract especially after the year he's had.

Sam Cassell, he won't be around. He'll be retired, and I really don't know if he'll be around next year either.

Eddie House, don't see him being around with us after this year unless he can't find a job.

Tony Allen... I'm on the fence about this one, I would offer him a contract for 3 years at a decent value, which shouldn't be much of a problem.  I don't think there'll be many teams going after him.  But I can easily see him being part of a trade package with a combination of Scal, Davis, and/or Pruitt.

I think our starting 5 will be here with the exception of maybe Ray but I think he will stay. Posey will make up his own mind. I think Powe will stay unless Ainge thinks he can get some great value in a trade with him. Other than that, I don't really expect to see to many of the other guys around (if any). Hopefully, they can find guys who can play similar roles though. I think 5 guys could easily be gone after this season (Sam, Posey, House, PJ, Pollard) but hopefully some stay a little longer. Here's hoping that we win it all until 2011...

Kg, PP, Rondo, Perk, hopfully posey, powe and others.

Sam, pj, house, = no

pruitt, big baby = depending on how much they can improve

also i haven't given up on tony allen. With him we are a great defensive team.

ray allen unfortunately won't swallow anything lower than 14 million per year. I would sign him up for maybe 9 to 10 million but then again he will be older and i don't know. I can seriously see him going back to seattle after his wins as a celt

BudCeltic a TP for your indepth answer and insight.
It is still a guessing game, but the foundation is there to be a playoff contender for the next 3 years.

I think Danny (who will still be here) will be respectful but not over-sentimental about the Ancient 3, and so with KG and PP still winding down their current contracts there's no chance they re-up for Old Man Ray.  Scal's gone too.  Otherwise I think there's a fair chance the remainder of your 1st 2 groups are here, but I suspect nobody from your latter groups will be around.

Excellent point.  MAybe they'll have a D-League team and Ray's skills will have eroded so much he'll be willing to go there for sentimental purposes?  Am I giving Triboy too much of the benefit of the doubt here?  I do agree with the basics of Triboy's list.

Pierce and KG are givens.

Rondo will be signed to an extension ASAP; I suspect they'll try and lock up Powe to an extension as soon as they can, as well.

House will leave; someone will FINALLY offer him a multi-year contract, I'm going to predict.  Posey, I bet will resign, it's a great situation for him here and he fits into what they're doing pertfectly.

Tony Allen is gone.  He's still making dumb rookie mistakes what, four years into his career?  It's not like he was drafted as a high school kid; if he hasn't developed any consistency at this point of his career, will he ever?

BBD will be traded; Powe's locked down the backup PF spot for the foreseeable future, and they've got to be concerned that he's Oliver Miller II.  Trade him now while he's got value, rather than watch him sit on the bench next season.

The real question - the one that's hardest to anticipate - is what happens with Ray Allen.  He's an expiring contract in another year; will they resign him, let him walk after '10, or trade him in the summer of 2009?  A lot depends, I think, on how he performs next year; he's clearly the one of the big three who's had the most difficult transition, and seems to be showing his age more than the others.  They MAY decide, depending on how much improvement Rondo shows next year (and how much HIS extension will command) that the new big three is Pierce, KG, Rondo, and let Ray Allen walk in 2010 rather than make a trade and commit to MORE salary.

But, otherwise I suspect that this basic core is our team for the next couple years.  They'll bring in someone else to play backup PG next year, and maybe another wing and another big man for the bench - but I suspect Danny will be a lot less active at least on the trade front than in previous years.

I think Tony Allen's fate will be tied to James Posey's. I have a hard time envisioning keeping both of them. Although I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it. If Cassell and House are gone, you may be able to find minutes for both Posey and TAllen.

Tony Allen can and should be dropped. Can't have that low basketball IQ on a championship contender. I also suspect that Brown retires, Scal and Pollard are dumped and House signs a deal elsewhere.

Exactly!  Danny isn't going to repeat the mistakes that doomed the Celtics in the early 90s when they held on to the big 3 too long.  Allen's expiring contract in 09 will be too tempting to trade.  If we just let it expire or re-up it, we won't get any value for Ray.

I think if Danny can get value for Ray, he'll go. But I wouldn't ever want to see him go.

The Sonics can still stay in Seattle. If they win their litigation, Bennett won't want to wait until 2010 to move. He'll just sell. A little off-topic, sry.

I would love to see all of the big 3 stay. KG and Pierce definitely will stay. PJ and House are gone. Cassell will stay if they win at least one ring. That's the one thing that will keep this team together, and that's a ring. Most people will stay if this team gets a ring, and 2 rings would keep them together until the big 3 retire.

But that's a big if, because the league looks really good right now, with a lot of young, good teams coming up and already good teams (Pistons, Lakers, Celtics) that will be good for a while at least.

So we'll just have to wait and see what happens. If we can pick up somebody good from the draft and/or draft-day trades.. Who knows who could be gone.

While I think a trade of Ray is *likely* in a years' time, I do think it's contingent on what the financial commitment to Rondo proves to be.  Ownership has shown a willingness to lay down some serious coin for this team, but if Rondo takes his game to the next level (Tony Parker II) and gets paid accordingly...   they might back away.  It'll also depend on who's available in trade, but I could see them wanting to exercise some financial discipline.
