I do hope Kobe decides to protest like he did in the Phoenix series.

You know, the game 7 where he didn't take shots.

My hope for the Western Conference is that the Lakers make an early exit.

The Lakers are my 2nd favorite team.   I am only 18 and I don't have the same level of hate for the Lakers as most other fans.  I never really understood why we hate the Lakers so much.  I know we played them a lot in the '80s and there were some chippy games, but is that all?

It goes back to before then even.  The Lakers and Celtics had some great battles in the Finals.  They played each other 7 times from 1959-1969, with the Celts winning all of them.  There were absolute battles though.  Red hated the Lakers and took extra joy in beating them.

There was the "blue collar" Boston vs. The Glitzy LA thing too.  The NBA is much more homogenized now, but if these two met in the Finals I think you'd start to see some of the old venom come alive again.

1968-69      Boston Celtics   Los Angeles Lakers   4-3
1967-68      Boston Celtics   Los Angeles Lakers   4-2

1966-67      Philadelphia 76ers   San Francisco Warriors   4-2
1965-66      Boston Celtics   Los Angeles Lakers   4-3
1964-65      Boston Celtics   Los Angeles Lakers   4-1

1963-64      Boston Celtics   San Francisco Warriors   4-1
1962-63      Boston Celtics   Los Angeles Lakers   4-2
1961-62      Boston Celtics   Los Angeles Lakers   4-3

1960-61      Boston Celtics   St. Louis Hawks   4-1
1959-60      Boston Celtics   St. Louis Hawks   4-3
1958-59      Boston Celtics   Minneapolis Lakers   4-0

Kind of random, but I was surprised to see that the Lakers have made 28 Finals appearances, which surpasses every other team by far (the Celtics have had 19).

The difference between the Lakers and Celts is that the Lakers aren't finishers: they're 14-14 (.500) in Finals matchups, which the Celts are 16-3 (.842).

Bryant valiantly carried the Lakers through regulation's final five minutes, using his head and his heart and the best Mother's Day passing that didn't involve a brunch plate.

And some incredibly horrible calls against the Jazz. That was one of the most ridiculous ref hack jobs I've ever seen. Kobe forearms Kirilenko to the floor? Foul on Kirilenko. The Jazz defend hard but don't touch Kobe on a made layup? Obviously, he gets a shot at a three-point play. Fisher stops and leans into the defender, who is standing still? Foul on the defender. And that was all in the last two minutes of regulation.

Sometimes this league is a joke.
Don't point this out to the posters in another thread who are complaining about refs giving the home teams all the calls.

To be fair, the jazz got more calls than the lakers did, outside of those 2 bad ones for kobe, including a huge no call on boozer on what should have been his 6th.

And i think we are all aware of how the officals call the game for mr. Bryant and mr. James, regardless of homecourt.

mabey lebron can go down hard after the opening tip and check his mouth for chicklets for 5 minutes until the refs eject pierce tonight, should really get the home crowd going.
