Any thoughts on Will Leitch's appearance on CostasNow? I'm sure there are a bunch of us that are interested in your take on Buzz's over-the-top reaction.

never heard of Buzz before yesterday, and now I can see why

he kind of made the case against himself simply by opening his mouth

maybe I'll rant about it sometime, but it was such a pathetic display on his part and blogger nation has responded so resoundingly, I'm not sure how much more I could add
Faith and Sports - an essay by Jeff Clark

"Know what I pray for? The strength to change what I can, the inability to accept what I can't, and the incapacity to tell the difference." - Calvin (Bill Watterson)

I saw the video yesterday and agree with Jeff 100%.

Hey soap, thanks for bringing this up.  In my NBA playoffs bubble, I managed to completely miss this, which led to me googling the incident this morning.  Since I'm currently sitting in a meeting, I don't have sound to watch the video, but from reading several blog posts on the matter (@ FanHouse and elsewhere), it certainly seems like I'll be hard-pressed to disagree with Jeff and Bob once I've seen the video for myself.  As Jeff said, very strong reaction from the blogosphere.

Sounds like you may have been kind to Bissinger by calling his reaction "over-the-top."

It's really too bad, btw, because I really enjoy the guy's work.  He's best known for Friday Night Lights at this point, but 3 Nights in August was an wonderfully-written look at Tony La Russa's managerial world.  Great writer...but apparently a bit off-base on this blogging issue.  Too bad.

I think Bissinger makes some good points.  My hope has always been that we will find a happy medium in between the two worlds, or discover a way to continue the relationship as it is between the two mediums both prospering financially from that relationship.  Right now, it is perceived that neither world can co-exits (financially speaking) and I am not entirely sure that will end up being a true reality in the future.  The hope is that we look back in 20 years and see that this was an adjustment phase for traditional media and the newspaper business and that they continue to thrive and coexist.  This is where Bissinger comes off poorly, with his doomsday prediction.  However, I am concerned with the potential for the "dumbing down" of sports coverage and I do think Will Leitch is guilty of sensationalizing his material.  People see value there and so there is a market.  I am a fan of Will's success and how he achieved it, but I'd be lying if I said I read his blog because I don't.  My passion for the game and sports coverage is in a different realm and it is why I sought out the ability to obtain press credentials here through CelticsBlog and thankfully have had that opportunity.  I think what is presented here on CelticsBlog is the kind of coverage I prefer over what Deadspin has to offer, but that is my personal choice.
