This trade only happens (in theory) if Portland owners want to compete.

Celtics

Outgoing: Porzingis, Holiday, Hauser, 2025 28th pick, 2025 31st pick

Incoming: Ayton (stretch), Williams III, Reath, 2025 11th pick

With the stretch provision of Ayton, the Celtics can save 45.8 million

***

Boston Celtics

Prichard
White
Brown
Horford
Kornet

Scheierman, Williams III, Walsh, 2025 11th pick, Queta, Craig, Tillman, Peterson, Reath, Davison

Tatum (IR)

Portland Trail Blazers

Simons
Holiday
Avdija
Camara
Porzingis

Henderson, Grant, Hauser, Sharpe, Clingan, Murray

With the 11th pick from Portland the Celtics could look at drafting guys like Jase Richardson, Cameron Murray-Boyles, Thomas Sorber & Cedric Coward.

I am not sure where you are getting that information, but the trade is within the CBA rules.

I think the Blazers and Celtics have potential for a much simpler trade. Assuming BS can find a trade that doesn?t cost the Cs additional assets for Holiday than a Hauser for to the Blazer for draft capital makes a lot of sense.

Most fun to speculate about Hauser and 28 for 11

Most logical to speculate about Hauser for the return of Cs 2029 1st

they're above the second apron and cannot combine players in a trade until they get under it.  CBA interpretations be [dang]ed

The trade gets them under the second apron, so the trade is valid.

I thought Boston had  to be under the 2nd apron before the trade to be able to combine salaries, but this trade does work in the trade machine on fanspo for what it's worth. So maybe as long as a trade gets them under the 2nd then it can work to combine.....I'm not sure but maybe

It would hurt to get Ayton only to have to stretch (waive) him.

And then to see Kornet as our starting center ... ugh. I am not sure I would even bother watching that team play next year. Not until Tatum comes back from injury.

If the result of a trade gets the team below the 2nd apron, then that team is able to aggregate salaries. For a team like Boston who is so far over the 2nd apron, it is difficult to do that, but I think OP actually did create that scenario in his example.
