Obviously the key stat is the team going 20 for 40 from 3 instead of 10 for 40 or 15 for 60. Porzingis was 0 for 2, glad he didn't force it more, but everyone else was very efficient from 3. I thought the team had a good balance of 3s and drives, good distribution (5 players with 9 or more FGA). Everything just looks so much better when a few 3s go down.
As to what I call possession stats, both teams had exactly 14 points off turnovers and 18 second chance points. NYK did have more ORebs overall, but not more points off those ORebs. Generally speaking, if the Celtics either tie or win the possession points, they win. That was not true in game 2 though, we won TO/OReb points by 20 but still found a way to lose (primarily due to shooting woes). It would have been way worse without the turnover and offensive rebound points advantage.
I still don't like the hack-a-Mitch. And definitely not when you are not in the foul penalty (as they did in game 2). That is the kind of gimmick that the lesser team does to try to get an edge on a better team. When you are the better team, just play the game. I guess if you are behind or trying to change the momentum, something like that is worth a try. But that is not when it seemed they were doing it.
