SI list of Celtics buy out candidates:

Danny Green
Will Barton
Garrison Matthews
Hamidou Diallo

I'm skeptical we will get our top pick of buy out guys. Teams like Lakers, Philly, Heat and Suns always seem to be preferred.  I know they are supposed to be ring chasing, but I think weather also factors in. (doesn't explain Philly though!!)

If those are the only choices then Barton should be it.

Reggie Jackson is rumored to be working on a buyout.  The Nuggets have interest.

I think Barton ends up in Phoenix.  We can offer the most money, but they can offer more minutes.

I wonder if Justin Holiday gets bought out in Houston.  He wasn't having a great season, but he was quite solid in Indiana.

Odds are that we end up with Snell.  He's an upgrade on Jackson and a vet in the locker room, so I wouldn't really complain, even if I am hoping for somebody more dynamic.

If the Celtics come out of this having added Muscala and someone like Will Barton and it will have cost them two 2nds and someone who was never going to play... that'll be pretty good.

Just saw the specifics on the Muscala picks. Wow so we really didn't give up anything. Probably pick 55-60 this season, and then a 2nd round pick in 2029 lol

Orlando Magic swingman Terrence Ross is a potential buyout candidate to keep an eye on, league sources told @HoopsHype. – via Twitter MikeAScotto

So some of the wing possibilities are:

Barton
Ross
Green
Justin Holiday
Cory Joseph
Thybulle

Not a lot to get excited about.

Thybulle is expected to be bought out? Really?

No, he's not.  There was some confused reporting on that trade, but he went to the Blazers who gave up second-round compensation.

Potentially a little earlier than that, if Houston manages to pick 33 or 34, in which case the Thunder get the Blazers pick in the late 30s or early 40s.  But in that world we've got a second-rounder only a couple slots back from where we would have picked in the first, so I'm good with the compensation either way, especially since we have a cheap team option on Muscala for next season if it works out.  It was a really good, low-cost move to fill in a hole on the team with the best record in a way that shouldn't disrupt the chemistry they've been playing with.

I think people need to realize Muscala and whoever they get from the buyout market are simply 9th-10th men on the roster. Some people seem "disappointed" on social media that we "only" got Muscala but like, we literally don't need another star. All we needed really was some solid depth to get us by the 2nd half of the season and eat up some minutes to give our main guys some rest and avoid fatigue down the stretch.

It's not like these guys are all going to play heavy minutes in the playoffs anyways. And if they are, our chances were probably doomed anyways since it likely meant a few of our stars got injured during the postseason. But playoff rotations are usually down to just 7-8 guys, maybe 9 if a team is very deep.

In theory, the C's definitely have that assuming health

Starters: Smart, Brown, Tatum, Horford, Timelord

Bench: Brogdon, White, Grant, Muscala, Buyout

Mop-Up/End of Bench: Pritchard, Kornet, Hauser, Griffin

I think that's right.  We didn't need wholesale changes.  We need a backup big who can play defense and shoot from outside.  Three of those guys got traded:  Thomas Bryant, Mo Bamba, and Mike Muscula.  When considering production, contract and cost to acquire, Muscula was probably the best option available.  (I do like Bryant a lot -- a lot -- but he's probably looking at a decent raise in the off-season.  I like that MM is under contract next season.)
