I put a 7. I don't need or necessarily want a big move, but it should be fairly easy for us to use the TPE and some combo of Pritchard and/or picks to get some kind of roster upgrade in the 9/10 rotation spot over Kornet and Hauser.

I'm skeptical, without a decent move, that we can win the championship, given how we have played since December, and continue to play (inconsistently).

But if we don't make a move, it will not be for lack of trying, given Brad's fearlessness to get good deals done (Al, D White and Brogdon are all smart moves).

Rated it a 4.  Will be disappointed, but understand that they should not make a move just to make a move.

how many times has a buyout player actually played meaningful minutes for a team that made the Finals (either winner or loser) at any point after that player was signed in the buy out market.  I know it has happened, but I'm not sure I could actually name someone.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Sam Cassell?  I guess it depends on what you call meaningful minutes.

Was PJ Brown a buyout?

I think so but I'm not 100% sure

I think that Brown was a free agent who just took the majority of the season off, if I'm remembering correctly.

Michael Finley in 2010.  2011 was Mike Bibby to the Heat.  Perk to the Cavs.  Dahntay Jones to the Cavs.  Andrew Bogut to the Cavs for like a day.  Deron Williams, Derrick Williams, Larry Sanders to the Cavs.  Matt Barnes to the Warriors.  Bogut to the Warriors.

Peja with the 2011 Mavs was a pretty big one.  Diaw, but his team didn't make the Finals.

Peja with the 2011 Mavs was a pretty big one.  Diaw, but his team didn't make the Finals.
Dahntay Jones played 3.3 mpg in the playoffs.  He did play in 15 games during the title season, but only 3 of those were at least 5 minutes.  That isn't meaningful minutes.  Even Finley here only played 6 mpg in the playoffs and he played a whopping 5 minutes in the Finals (2 of the 7 games).  Perkins played in 8 playoff games at 4.1 mpg.  Not meaningful.  Barnes 5.1 mpg in 12 playoff games.  not meaningful.

Bibby played a bunch that is a solid one as is Deron Williams with the Cavs in 17.  Bogut with the Warriors had his moments and even started 6 playoff games, another good one.

So as I said, very few players contribute to teams in the finals from the buy out market.  It just isn't a reliable strategy for signing players.

I think the idea with the buyout is that the player we potentially get there can at least eat up some minutes late in the regular season and give some of our key guys rest or a breather when needed.

That's still a valuable guy to have. I do think we already have a great Top-7 (Tatum, Brown, Smart, Horford, Timelord, Brogdon, White) but adding a depth piece or two would still be nice. I really want to avoid having our main guys playing heavy minutes regularly over the next few months and potentially getting fatigued or worn out come playoffs.

It was encouraging to see Hauser do well last night, but overall the group of Hauser/Kornet/Griffin have either underwhelmed or barely played lately and G-Will has also slumped which has led to certain guys having to play heavy minutes even against bad teams.

Maybe LaMarcus Aldridge has a little gas left in the tank too.

There is always Carmelo out there,  JK but dude can still shoot but he is the age when the body breaks down for bigs and we might have the old I can't go moment like we did in 2010 with Sheed.

I think this is a Carpe Diem moment.   We should seize the day and make a move.

1. That mean to make a move that  us closer to contention

or

2. Make a move  that keeps our guys in good health for contention

Now, I do not advocate a move for making a move.  Maybe target some one who can play a little  that others are now  playing a head of him.    I would love to get a back up big like Mo Bamba.  To spell Rob and Al for the playoffs, it is clear Mazulla while he plays Kornett might want another option.

A back wing is a priority as we need to stop playing Tatum for  37 minutes and Brown for 36 minutes a night.  We all saw how gassed they were last finals as a result of over playing them.

They don't have to be world beater moves just some upgrades.  Now you take a good opportunity if it presents itself.   ( not talking Brown for Durant here, I prefer Brown)
