I like that the #6 will be retire across the league and the #6 will be a put on every home court in the league near the score table.
If it sparks a conversation among fans about who Bill Russell the man was, I think it's more meaningful than BLM slogans or phrases on the back of jerseys.
The fact is, a man who suffered brutal racism literally in his home didn't submit. Instead, he became the biggest winner of all-time, and the first black coach to coach an NBA team (and only the second black man to coach a major American professional sport. As crazy and as sad as it is, there wasn't a black Division I head coach until 1970).
People need heroes. Bill Russell legitimately fits that term.
