The lack of resistance in the rim is really painful to the eye.

Would you rather Jokic have taken him out?  It’s a freaking all star game.  It’s sole purpose is to entertain and keep guys healthy.  The outcome means nothing.

He’s saying (and I agree) that watching NBA players make dunks while defenders literally get out of the way isn’t all that entertaining. So why bother with this “game”?

The all star game has always been the same and people enjoy it.  Don’t pretend like they were playing hard-nosed defense in the 80s and 90s.  If you don’t like the all star game, no one’s forcing you to watch.  Many people enjoy it if for no other reason than for the only opportunity to see a collection of the greatest players in the world on one court.

What in the world are you talking about? The all star is not even the same basic structure it used to be. It’s completely filled by gimmicks. They have two players randomly pick teams. The 4th quarter doesn’t even have a game clock. It is a number based off honoring kobe Bryant. They have charity events tied to quarter scores. There is no east versus west any more. It couldn’t be more different than it used to be. Some people think it is better. Some think it is worse. But the one thing it isn’t is the same.

C'mon guys. You're talking about different things.

One's talking about the level of play, the other is talking about the structure.

How about we agree;

 - the structure has changed quite obviously
 - the point is still to win a ball game by putting the ball through the hoop
 - people nowadays shoot more 3s than they used to
 - defence doesn't really arrive until the fourth quarter
 - plenty wide open dunks

That fair?

The bolded part is exactly right. I can’t remember the last one I watched. I don’t pretend anything about the older ASGs; I doubt I would’ve enjoyed them. If you like defense and team play the ASG is boring. That’s pretty much it.

As for whether people enjoy the all-star game, I’m sure some do but the ratings are pretty weak. There’s a reason they added the Elam ending - they were trying to bring some interest to the game. https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/nba-all-star-ratings-viewership-history/

I mean if people like the new stuff, I’m not trying to convince them to hate it. There is obviously a group of us that think getting rid of the east versus west and all the gimmicks have led to an event we enjoy less than we used to. I don’t have any problems with them trying new things, but the ratings have been plummeting, at least they did last year. I think they should try other things now cause the current version isn’t working for that many people.

While watching the halftime game i was wondering, how many Celtics are on that 75(76*) list of greatest players? Even including guys like Shaq and Gary Payton who were only here for a year. Its gotta be like 15 or more!

Quote
Ray Allen
Nate Archibald
Dave Bing
Larry Bird
Bob Cousy
Dave Cowens
Kevin Garnett
John Havlicek
Sam Jones
Pete Maravich
Bob McAdoo
Kevin McHale

Guess the hatchet has been buried. Good to see.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

One toke over the line, you might say.

I'd be fine if they just named the all stars and didn't bother with the game. I know that will never happen, but they could do some more fun and innovate things on that last day.  Maybe do like a 3 on 3 tournament or something.  There is no reason to play that game anymore.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
