As much as I've enjoyed the resurgence of this Celtics team, I've been ready for playoff basketball for about a month now. Sick of the regular season.

Obviously they'll never change the duration of the season for financial reasons, but I personally don't know anyone who wants the season to be this long. 60 Games MAX.

I fully agree with you. It's just way too much. Just play every team twice, to a total of 58 games.
And also make it a best-of-five series in the playoffs. That would limit a lot of basically redundant games.
Less is more.
This is pretty much my take as well. I'd also expand the league to 32 teams for a total of 62 games. Obviously, this is a pipe dream. The NBA is a business. Their #1 priority is maximizing profits.

I guess they could establish a cup competition, like pretty much all leagues do overseas. For instance, most sports teams in Europe participate in either 2 or 3 different competitions: national league, national cup, continental cup. I realize this is not part of US sports culture, but it works perfectly fine overseas. No need for a continental cup in north America cause national leagues outside the US are nowhere near the same level as the NBA. That said, I'd love to see an NBA cup.

I would love to see the NBA schedule reduced to 60 games.
Less wear and tear on the athletes, more energy and focus available for game performances.

Players Association would have to accept lower salaries for the athletes, which would be a good thing for the league anyway.
These astronomical contracts the modern players are currently signing are way beyond what most fans could ever relate to.

There’s too much money to be lost at this point to reduce the schedule. I enjoy the way European basketball is set up with. Lesser games per week. No back to backs. It will never happen in USA unless they are serious about the mid season tournament.

There are too many games .  I don’t know what’s the best number , there are just too many , should be no more than one or two back to back games due to schedule issues a season.

Long story short

Adam Silver: ''Let's find some games within the regular season, probably within the same footprint we're operating in now so the season would start roughly around the same time, end around the same time, but then maybe convert some of those regular season games into what we call mid-season tournament and begin a new tradition of something that players care about, teams care about, something to win. Again, not the Larry O'Brien trophy. Something probably secondary to that''.

I'd love this to happen. I think it's a pretty realistic scenario as well.

I prefer to watch more basketball, rather than less basketball, so I support the 82 game season.

Many good arguments against it though.

I'd be for keeping it at 82 games, but contract the league so it's more competitive. I don't think the number of games is what causes mid season naps by teams, but the talent is just too spread out.
Reduce the number of games and have the best record of the team that doesn't make the playoffs get more lottery balls or redesign the draft order to give incentive not to tank.

Reduce the salary cap significantly enough to prevent super teams.

None of this will ever happen, but what I said proves crack can give one good dreams.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

Yeah, I’d much rather 60 games and no 7 game series except conference and finals. I’d love a 5 game series otherwise.
