This is not a “why didn’t we keep this guy” thread.  I get why he was let go. But man, what a break out year he is having - under the radar.  Have a look at his numbers in 23 minutes.  53% from the field and 81% from the line.  His minutes have gone up steadily and so has his production.  If he could figure out how to hit a 3 he’s got himself a [dang] good contract coming somewhere.  Regardless, he’s earned a job in the league.  Happy for him.  He was always fun to watch when he got minutes here.
Yup

Yeah, he’s always played hard with good defense and athleticism.  I’m glad to see him stick.

I still wish we kept Max Strus, haha.

Meh, his per 36 numbers are identical pretty much...

I'd like him back though.

Yeah, I know he pushed Strus out, but I remember being genuinely happy for him making the NBA. He was so good in SL and pre-season that it was impossible not to keep him. Bummer that we traded him.

Redz, why isn't it a "why didn't we keep this guy" thread?  ;D ;D
  • He's better than our 1st round picks -- He'd be the 2nd wing off the bench behind JR.
  • A spot line-up of Green, Smart, Richardson, one of Tatum or Brown, and Timelord would be flat out dirty for stretches on the defensive end.
  • If the Cs have to trade Smart to upgrade, he'd soften the blow of defending smaller, shifty players at a cheap price.
Too bad Ainge dumped him unnecessarily.

I don't recall Javonte being a great defender, which always surprises me in an athletic player.

He wasn’t. Which is why he was behind Romeo and likely still would be.

I preferred keeping Strus over him, but it seemed like we were trying to get the roster to be more athletic, which Green clearly was.

I recall him being an active and very versatile defender.

Javonte also excels at hustle plays -- tip out rebounds, deflections / steals, saving balls, etc. He's a guy who (through energy) is in the right place, at the right time quite a lot.

Just ask Chicago. They value him more than we did, apparently. And they're pretty good.

Wrong. Javonte didn't play behind Romeo Langford, and wouldn't on the current Cs either.

I think this is also wrong.  When Romeo was healthy as a rookie, particularly in the bubble, he played ahead Javonte.  Then he got hurt in the bubble, and remained hurt/Covid until after Green had been traded in his second year, so there's no telling who would have been ahead of who last year.
