Lack of offensive threats around Tatum has hurt his 3 point %.  In prior years he was surrounded by more offensive threats, including Kemba when he was healthy, and Hayward.

Agreed. Jaylen's efficiency has been affected by it as well. I mentioned in another thread that the lack of consistent offense around them is the reason we don't see any Jayson/Jaylen pick & rolls. Defenses will just load about against them.

Its also true that we are all a bit weird in that we are mostly adults sitting around during workdays thinking about arcane Celtics related topics and writing each other snippets about what we think. So I agree its weird, but its not baseless.

hahhaaaaa.... this part i agree IS weird!

I'm working wicked hard here.  Speak for yourself :police:

Tatum's poor three point shooting is because Kemba Walker isn't here?  ::) ::) ::)

Kemba Walker and Gordon Hayward demanded a bit more attention than Marcus Smart & the ghost of Al Horford

Sorry, you mean the ghost of Kemba Walker, and the shadow of Gordon Hayward (who started 30% of total games he was in Boston), right? Because Smart took the place of those boys an awful lot.

Meanwhile, it seems to me that teams have been packing the lane against Tatum -- challenging him to shoot 3s instead of letting him in the paint -- because he's struggled to make those shots. And indeed.... Tatum misses an awful lot of wide open 3s.

From late January:
Quote
According to NBA.com, Tatum entered Wednesday 78 for 240 (32.5 percent) on 3-pointers where a defender is not within 4 feet. He was 40 percent in those situations last season, including 52.4 when a defender wasn’t within 6 feet. He’s shooting 34.2 in that situation this season.

I applaud Tatum for making a point of dishing from the drive, and trusting his teammates -- no matter how hard that's been. It's improving his ability to score from inside the 3 point line, where he's simply a better player.

or, what if he got back to his career averages from deep?

Tatum's "superhero skill" has long been his ability to hit "bad" shots, i.e. long twos, mid-range fades, and step-back / pull-up threes, at an above average rate.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Frankly, I'm more comfortable with Tatum taking a contested 3 than a wide open one. Hope he improves in the latter category and proves me wrong.

If anyone saw the stat last night during the game Tatum is among the lead leaders in two point FG% shooting around  63% on twos.

That number is inaccurate. Going into tonight’s game, Jayson is 306/612 on the season, or exactly 50%, on two-pointers.

Grant Williams is shooting .629 on twos... maybe that’s what you saw.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

No it was actually since January first he's shooting 63% and Bridges is shooting 68% from two.
