I still might trade Smart for Ingles if something else of value was included.

So 2 trades

Ingles, 1st for Smart
1st for Schroder (he fits into the Favors TPE)

I'd probably do that.  Pick up a couple of 1st's and clear salary both this year and in the future.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Smart is worth Ingles (injured), Butler and a first, if not more....(liked Butler in college...could pay off if he stays healthy).

Smart can help an otherwise healthy Jazz team to a title...

interesting but 2 thoughts on it:
1. with Ingles in decline and injured, Smart's worth a lot more than an injured player and very late first rounder.
2. with Shroder also on his way out, that only leaves PP as the PG on the team.  we'd basically be throwing the season away --> I know the argument to that is since we can't make any real headway this season out of the play-in round so why not drop into the lottery but then we're really at a disadvantage in trying to land a PG in the offseason where they know they have the C's over a barrel to pay (presuming a trade is needed since a starting quality PG isn't going to be waiting for us in FA that we can afford)

Butler can be included.  Schroder though isn't getting a 1st, if you combine the trades it is really Ingles and 2 1st's for Smart and Schroder.  That valuation seemed ok to.  So it serves as both a salary dump for the C's, but because Smart and Schroder can still play the C's get two 1st's along with the expiring contract, plus also get another TPE the size of Schroder's deal (and as we've seen those can have some value).

Yes, it was a salary dump look to the future type trade from the C's end.  Get well under the tax this year, clear a bunch of long term salary, get a 5.8 million TPE, and then two 1st round picks.

The real problem, and I didn't know it at the time, is that the Jazz don't really have any 1st round picks they can trade so that pretty much ends that sort of trade from happening.
