Becky Hammon is headed back to the WNBA.

The San Antonio Spurs assistant is apparently set to become the next head coach of the Las Vegas Aces, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Chantel Jennings.

Hammon, who has long been considered a frontrunner to become a head coach in the NBA, will replace Bill Laimbeer in Las Vegas. She is expected to sign a five-year deal that will make her the highest-paid coach in the WNBA, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. She will finish out the rest of the NBA season with the Spurs.

seemed like she was gonna make history in the nba

now it may be somebody else
or it still may be long time away, if ever.

spurs must not have given her a guarantee that shed be next after pop is eventually done

Not surprised. A record contract and back in her comfort zone, IMO.

Still will not be surprised if she takes over for Pop when he retires. But that may be another 5-10 years from now for all we know. He strikes me as the type who may coach well into his late 70s or early 80s.

BTW, had no idea Bill Laimbeer was previously a WNBA coach. That’s the most shocking piece of news here IMHO.
