Celtics trade: Al Horford + Aaron Nesmith

Hornets trade: Gordon Hayward

Gordon is the perfect 3rd leg to the max contract stool. Jaylen is a 3rd leg who thinks he is a 2 (maybe even 1). We trade Jaylen for some other key part (PG: Fox/Lillard or C: KAT) and build against a more balanced team.

Could be:

PG: Lillard
SG: Smart
SF: Hayward
PF: Tatum
C: Williams III

I'd do it straight up. Both are overpaid, but Hayward has 1 extra year remaining on his contract. I'd be kinda hesitant to surrender more value (=Nesmith). Wouldn't be against it though.

Charlotte needs a starting-caliber Center. I reckon they could have a use for Horford. At the same time, they are very deep at the SF/PF positions. When everyone's healthy, Oubre and PJ Washington are coming off the bench.

If Jaylen is a "third leg" as you say, then what incentive do other teams have to give up a "first leg" like Lillard or KAT for him?  Why would they willingly trade down?

This always confuses me.  People give up on these players but expect other teams to pay top price for them anyway.

And no, Charlotte is not trading us Hayward for Horford and Nesmith.

Hayward got injured again last year. Too much of an injury risk. Not interested in reacquiring him.

I am looking forward to waiving Horford this summer.

Good riddance.

Horford is obviously overpaid, but he's one of our best players this season. I'm perfectly happy to keep him on the roster next season. Not to mention, we could attach some picks to his expiring contract and go after a disgruntled star at next year's trade deadline.

Didn't we already have Hayward...you remember, the guy the we allowed to walk because "the J's are on the way up" and we didn't need his basketball IQ thing?

You want to see Brown beg for a trade? Bring in Hayward again.

You mean like we let Horford walk and then traded back for him?

Fwiw, Hayward may be happy to come back as well.

We didn’t let Hayward walk. He went for the money (wouldn’t you??).

In a vacuum I’d much rather have Hayward than Jaylen.

I'm gonna have to guess Gordon has little desire to return to Boston.

Why would you guess that? The same reason he originally came here still exists (Brad Stevens).

I don't know. I moved and my kids still want to go back where they were from.

When GH was still in Boston, I recall hearing him (or maybe it was Tatum? or both??) make a comment about being surprised that the two of them became quite close.

If we’re going to speculate about the impact his daughter’s wish might have on his decision, why not go whole hog with the sports blog fun and wonder if Tatum could be a draw?

I always get attached to our guys (eg would be disappointed if we moved JB, Timelord, Smart, etc) so prob not the best with these kinds of decisions but I do like the idea of bringing Hayward back. When not injured, he provided a lot of what this team seems to need (controlled playmaking, shooting).
