I love Beal, but I don't see that he makes us that much stronger.

JMO, Brad is maneuvering players and cap for something totally different than Beal.

Yeah, I’m not sold on the Beal fit either, especially with what it’d take to get him.
There are definitely concerns. Will Beal play defense? Will he work hard off the ball?

But it might not be Beal we're after. Maybe someone else? LaVine is  another free agent, but is very similar to Beal, though he would cost $5M less.

The other options are not all that enthralling unless KD or Harden decide to jump ship.

It is amazing how, in this era of plentiful great point guards, we somehow can't land one who isn't injured or insane.

It's entirely up to Tatum.

If Tatum wants them to go after Beal, that's that.

It's all about the recruitment after Beal. I feel there would be a lot here to attract ring chasers so you do it.

Exactly. Landing another star makes us a legit title destination, and is great for the image of the organization going forward. And gutting the team this year gives TimeLord, PP, Nesmith, and Langford a lot of minutes to either become part of the future core or to develop value as trade pieces. Tanking this year for Beal also likely nets us a mid-round 1st which is also an attractive trade piece to fill out the roster.

We are losing a lot by cutting down the roster - but there are gains to be made elsewhere. Any trade for a star would have gutted the roster anyways and left us with no picks. Good to shed our mediocre vets now so we don't end up like the Blazers.
Who said anything about tanking/gutting the team this year? We'd still be a highly competetive team this year. If we persuade Beal to sign with us in the 2022 free agency, we let everybody walk. If not, we re-sign our key free agents and we run it back.

That said, the ideal scenario would be to strike a sign and trade deal with the Wiz. Like Jim said, we could possibly retain both Smart and Timelord this way. Not to mention, we wouldn't need to dump/stretch Horford anymore, cause we'd use his expiring contract to match Beal's salary.

Such as?
I really don't know.

The Kyrie Irving trade popped up out of nowhere, Stevens may be biding his time looking for the next guy to go Kyrie or Harden.

I don't see the gut the team and sign him in 2022-23 as a viable option.  Possible, sure but the all in for one maybe FA plans tend to blow up.

If Beal forces the issue, we may be able to trade for him but even then, there will be better offers.

I kind of see it as keep an eye on Beal to see what develops but in the meantime, go about the business of building a team.  Don't make any moves just based only on what Bradley Beal might do.

The goal is to somehow have a Big 3 with a supporting cast, so To Beal if we can somehow still have a supporting cast like this:

Smart/Pritchard
Langford
Brown/Nesmith
Tatum
Horford/Timelord

Maybe we also give up Timelord if we can be sure to bring in a ring-chasing big who can play 5/4.

Adding Beal to 7-8 of the above would be amazing. We’d be deeper than the Nets, better defensively and almost as solid offensively. We would be better offensively than the Bucks and 76ers and just as good defensively/depth-wise. Nobody in the West would beat us if we got past the elite of the East.
