I wonder if OKC could find a way to trade him to Philly for Simmons. Simmons has really had a bad run lately and I have always thought that Kemba would be a good fit on Philly.
And if OKC was able to somehow make that trade, how would Celtics fans feel? Is getting Horford better than getting Simmons or would it be a missed opportunity to harp on for months like the Miles Turner non-trade?
Personally, I think Simmons would be great on the Celtics, possibly better than Horford but Simmons comes with more risk and more money. Simmons is a risk OKC is in a much better position to take than the Celtics. Horford is a safer trade for the Celtics.
It would be disastrous. We gave up a 1st in addition to Kemba in order to get out of his contract. Horford is a usable player, but is very near retirement. Simmons was just All-NBA and would be a perfect 3rd player on a timeline that fits the Jays perfectly. If OKC somehow manages to trade Kemba for Simmons without giving up too much else (a couple of picks), then Brad's job security should already be in jeopardy. Dramatic, I know, but this would be a huge misstep.
People keep talking about OKC flipping Kemba for assets. I am doubtful about this, as the Cs really should have done their due diligence before making this trade. If there is actual interest by anybody - even just with NYK taking him into cap space for nothing - then it will be very disappointing.
The only time OKC should be able to obtain anything is next offseason if they take on an even longer/worse contract than Kemba's. I am happy to have Al the person back in town, but it's not like h3 has this awesome contract and we were so lucky to take him on. We already didn't want to re-sign him at his current salary and we've already missed the best 2 years of that contract...while also giving up a 1st.
