I thought I read Brooklyn might be talked into parting with Spencer Dinwiddie. He is out for the year and has had ACL reconstruction. He can also opt out of a $12 million option this off-season.

Moving Tristan Thompson to the Nets for Dinwiddie gets the Nets some big depth for this year, while giving up a guy that won't be playing this year and who you probably weren't going to keep around at big money to be a sixth man. If Dinwiddie can come back as good as before the injury, and if you can sign him long term, you have a post Kemba solution at PG and can move Kemba for better players elsewhere. Someone to replace Theis and Thompson, maybe.

Kemba, the TPE, Nesmith/Langford and picks seems like a good place to start to try to end up with say Aaron Gordon or Harrison Barnes and other parts.

Dinwiddie/Brown/Tatum/Gordon or Barnes/Timelord

Bench starting with
Pritchard
Smart
the other parts

I could go deeper into how to move Kemba and who to target, but that's my general jist of an idea. I think Dinwiddie, as a starter is a much better PG option than Kemba. Rounding out next year's starters with Gordon or Barnes with Timelord gives the team a great starting 5 moving forward and the other incoming parts from moving Kemba and the TPE should be decent options for bench depth and quality.

I’d trade Tristan Thompson for anything, even a guy that won’t play this season.

He just takes up space on the roster and the court.

Kemba I’m torn on. Smart I think I’m only moving for Collins. If we don’t get Collins, I’d like to keep the TPE for the summer. If we can get Gordon/Barnes without giving up Smart or the TPE, I’m down (no R. Williams or Pritchard either for those guys).

Good idea. For the right team Thompson has positive trade value and the Nets might be exactly that team.
You'd think that Thompson would be glad if he can have his chance at a starting role for one of the top contenders.

Dinwiddie could certainly be an interesting buy-low candidate. He's pretty inefficient on offence, but so is Kemba :P

If he could get back to 16-17 efficiencies on higher usage he'd be a really solid player.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Brilliant idea!!!
This season should be a write off....Dinwiddie is solid and if would either exercise his option or sign long  term

If they'd take Thompson you have to do it.  The other day I said I basically take him into the TPE as long as I felt he could be re-signed.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

If he can leave in the off season then how does this help us? Yeah okay we get rid of the playboy but why oh why would we think Dinwiddie would re-sign with us? I am confused on how this helps. Yes if Dinwiddie would play for us and not just leave it would be a great idea.

Yeah, that is where I get stuck too. He is a free agent, he is going to get a load of money in the summer. The risk of him leaving is super high.

How much gain to we get just out of having his bird rights? How much are we willing to pay Dinwiddie? Will that be enough to keep him?

I have more questions than answers about this idea.
