Boxing out was such a big part of Rollie Massimino's tutelage. The drills at every practice both individual and team.
Yesterday twice, i was drawn to Robert Williams putting a proper box out on an opponent and i thought his timing on pick and rolls was crisp.
Speaking of pick and rolls, they have stolen that weapon from Theis and Jason has to work that much harder at rim.It seemed like such a smooth well timed seal, that it looked more a natural extension of his positioning.
Could someone explain the take away of Theis seals by refs -i understand the obvious or flagrant aspect but not the ones that are timed and seem part of a natural move and even sometimes the aggressive ones seem allowable by my old NBA standards of fighting for positioning

The devs felt that seal was too OP so they nerfed in the early season patch.

In modern game with fouls called more aggressively a defender in contrast is given a greater chance to go defend. Basically you can't move while physically blocking/impeding a defender from them going to defend. You can take a position and hold it such as screen or pick but the rules are the same with picks and screens you can not move or extend your body. If Theis is moving and contact is made if seen as impeding the defender it's illegal. Theis can move into position and stop before contact but he can not seal/extend as he must allow the defender a chance to defend. That's how they are calling it so all a defender has to do is show he is trying to go guard Tatum before Theis stops or during a seal and its illegal play.
