I got to thinking about the East Conference and who is the best at each position.  I was thinking in terms of who is the best going into this year or expected to be the best (if healthy) this season on their current team.  I came up with these candidates (no particular order, I just did off the top of my head or by scanning the top scoring and rebounders stat list):

PG:   T. Young, K. Irving, Westbrook, Simmons, K. Walker
SG:  Beal, J. Brown, Oladipo, Butler, Lavine
SF:   Durant, Tatum, Hayward, Middleton, T. Harris
PF:   Randle, Sabonis, Giannis, Siakam, Collins
C:    Drummond, Embiid, Turner, Vucevic, Adebayo

I guess if I was picking a team, I would take Irving, Brown, Durant, Giannis, and Drummond.  This is the best player at teach position, not necessarily the best team of 5.  For example, Vucevic or Adebayo might pair better with Giannis but I picked Drummond as the best Center weighing defense and rebounding more heavily.  My pick of Brown over Beal will no doubt be contested but I prefer the overall game and the versatility that comes with Brown's size over the heavy scoring Beal.  Butler is in the discussion also but I notch him down due to 3pt shooting (and yes, I admit that recency bias is likely a factor).  For PG, I am never quite sure what to do with Westbrook but since this is an "if healthy" ballot, I went with Irving.

I based the positions on what the teams listed them as.  Where it was something like Forward-Center, I just picked one.  I don't really like Simmons as a PG but that is how he was listed.  One exception is Jimmy Butler who was listed as a forward but I put him at SG to just kind if fill things in.  Actually, Oladipo is listed as a SF but to me, he is clearly a guard so I guess I did make some adjustments to balance out the ballot.

Anyone care to take a shot at this?  Write-ins are allowed.

Not bad that the Celtics are top 5 or better at 3 positions (at least on my ballot).

Durant has played almost exclusively at the PF position thus far this season.

And I am not sure in what world that Drummond is the best center in the EC.

I would go:

Trae Young
Jaylen Brown
Jayson Tatum
Kevin Durant
Joel Embiid

Yeah, I mean you can switch Irving-Young and/or Jaylen-Beal but either way, that team would be unstoppable.

Kyrie-Brown-Durant-Giannis-Adebayo

Would be perfectly happy to swap Kyrie for Trae, Jaylen for Beal or Bam for Embiid.

Either way, we should have two All-Stars this year!
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

All of those point guards are spectacular at some things but all have issues that can be exploited
I would rather have Brogdon if I was going out and trying to win.

TP! I like the way you think! I'm a big fan of Brogdon's game too. Never understood why the Bucks opted to keep Bledsoe over Brogdon last year. Possibly because he's injury prone, but imo they made a mistake.

I hate Trae's game. He can't play D to save his life. Reminds me of prime IT or even AI. Was never a fan of undersized ball-dominant guards tbh. You gotta build the whole team around them, yet they aren't good enough to lead you to a title. Remember our starting lineup when IT was playing for the C's?

IT - Bradley - Crowder - Amir - Horford

We had 4 plus defenders who are happy to play off the ball + IT running the show. Our ceiling was the ECF. If you ask me, I believe it's close to impossible to win a championship with a 6'1'' go-to scorer who's a defensive liability. The Sixers made the Finals with AI running the show, but they had no realistic shot at the title. They were one of the worst teams to make the Finals in NBA history. Not to mention, AI was a way better defender than Trae or IT.

Only guy I like from the PG list is Simmons. If he leaves Philly, I believe he has the potential to transform into an MVP candidate. I'd be using him as a small-ball Center though or as a PF alongside a stretch Center.
