I think Holiday would be a great fit IF we traded Kemba. I would try to keep Gordon in this scenario.

The Pels don't want Kemba and his contract.  They want another high draft pick.  Which is why Celtics were trying to package their 3 to trade up. Reportedly.

Guess who tried signing Kemba last off season? The Knicks.  Now that the Knicks are out of the Chris Paul sweepstakes, I bet they would be very happy to get Kemba.

So, yes, three way trade as follows:

Kemba to the Knicks.

8th and 14th pick to the Pelicans.  That's a good return for one year of Holiday control.

Holiday to Boston.

Need help on how to make the contracts work.   Kemba makes a lot more than Jrue, and I don't have any salary going out for the Knicks.  Need to smooth around the edges. Is it possible for the Knicks to renounce team option contracts to get them under the cap so that they don't have to match salary?  Probably not enough to absorb Kemba's contract.  Could send some players back to NO and/or Boston.

Any ideas on how we could make the numbers work on this?  Don't forget that the Knicks were Kemba's 2nd choice in free agency, and he is from the Bronx, so I won't feel too bad if he ends up there.

Starting lineup:

Holiday/Smart/Waters or Middleton
Brown/Langford/Smart/Holiday
Hayward/Brown/Tatum
Tatum/G Will/Hayward
Theis/Time Lord/Baynes (FA signing)

I like that team an awful lot.

Why would any FA ever want to sign in Boston if we dump Kemba for Jrue? I understand the argument it would improve the team but it’s very bad business.

After what DA did to IT, the organization is already on thin ice. It’s pretty much been all but said that it’s why AD didn’t want to play in Boston. Players already think the city is racist, cold, boring.

Nothing good can come from trading Kemba after ONE YEAR and I’m standing by that. Alienating players and agents time and time again will keep this team from ever being a destination for big name talent.

I used to feel this way, but I think recent history has given some examples of this becoming accepted practice. Plus IMO that allegation by AD's father was bogus blather for his agent's push to limit his trade value to the Lakers.  I give no stock to that whatsoever.

I’m not sure that Kemba is a great fit for Tom Thibodeau.  The effort is there, but between natural ability and a lingering knee issue, the defense would be bad.

Kemba is not getting traded.

And thus Hayward has. I don't like it at all  :(.

Would be worse of course if the Celtics let go of Brown or Tatum at the stage we are now.

As much as Kemba helped to improve our MORALE since he's been here (and been an All-Star, to boot) trading him NOW - unless it's for a CLEAR improvement - sends a wrong message and would be IMO a BAD move.

I'm glad Holiday is traded to the Bucks. Why would any one trade Kemba after he wanted to come here? Haven't people learned from the Isiah Thomas incident?

Where Isaiah was moved even though he lost his sister that year. The trade made sense at the time but it made Danny look bad and Anthony Davis' Dad used that against the Celtics. So right now I think the best course of action is to not trade people who showed an interest in coming to the Celtics after barely year.

could we assume then that you would prefer Danny to look good, or loyal, and have IT on the books on a max contract for at least another two years?

I'm just saying that people should slow down a bit in trading players after they've shown an interest in the Celtics.

Well so much for this bright idea.

Just hope we don’t lose Gordon now.

That would totally suck.

With the benefit of hindsight, what would you have preferred Danny had done at the time (bearing in mind he was likely much more informed about the state of IT's injuries as well)?

Well, with the benefit of hindsight, this is easy.

With the benefit of hindsight he simply doesn't make the Kyrie trade.  That's it.

We would have started the season with Isaiah on inactive list.  The starting lineup would have been:  (Rozier|Smart)+Jaylen+Jayson+Gordon+Horford.   That's a pretty strong roster.  Danny would have had to probably sign an extra PG for depth - probably could have found a Wanamaker type somewhere.

With a different lineup, maybe things play out ever so slightly different and Gordon doesn't get injured in Game 1.

That team probably plays well enough that there is no pressure to rush Thomas back.  There certainly would be no rush to sign him to a new contract.  Danny would be justified in 'wait and see'.    No real chance that he'd be signed to a max contract like you fear.

Maybe under those circumstance IT gets the surgery earlier that he just had this last year and is able to recover his career?   Who knows?
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.
