This recent article talks about how multiple teams have contacted the Wizards about a positble Bertan's sign and trade

If Hayward really wants out do the Cs attempt to bull off a s deal based around Hayward + #14 for Bertans and #9? Honestly I'm not sure if a S&T with draft picks even works given the timing of the off-season but I think its an interesting enough deal to debate.

If the Wizards are going to make a honest run at keeping Beal then adding Hayward could really help. 80% of old John Wall along side a healthy Hayward and a role player center is a playoff team and a tough match-up. The #14 will still yield them a solid young player maybe even a starting center in Achiuwa.

For the Celtics Bertans is a step down from Hayward in terms of talent but he is over two years younger, bigger, and provides the team with one of these best 3pt threats in the NBA. By moving up from 14 to 9 the Celtics according to Givony likely put themselves into position to draft Hayes. The loss of Haywards creation might be lessened by the addition of Hayes to the bench.

To make salaries work we’d have to massively overpay Bertrans, and we’d end up hard-capped for our trouble.

Yea, the hard cap would be problematic for Boston, and while he's a good player I'm not sure it's smart to get in a bidding war for Dāvis Bertāns ahead of a looming cap crunch. Probably more efficient to just insist on McBuckets as a throw-in in any Indiana deal.

Bertans is decent, but he is currently one of the most overrated players in the NBA. I definitely don't want to be the team that overpays Bertans on his next contract. If we are losing Hayward, I feel like we can do a little better. Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to add him with the MLE, but not what it would require in this deal.
