The Scoring Load

During the summer of '18, I predicted that the upcoming Celtic season would see a historic balance of scoring: 4 players averaging at least 17 ppg. That prediction, um... didn't come true.

But...

Through 12 games, this Celtic team has 4 guys averaging at least 18.9 ppg. Hayward has missed games and Brown has missed games but it's looking like my old hope might come true with this team: 4 players over 17 ppg for the first time in over 30 years.

I agree, we haven't seen this kind of offensive load-sharing at the top of the roster since the Big 3 days.

It's cool that pretty consistently you look at the box score at the end of a game and three guys have scored 20+ points, and there's usually a fourth who scored in the teens.


Part of that, though, is that the bench has not been particularly reliable in terms of providing production.  Then again, one strength of this team is that Brad can pretty much always have one of the top scorers out there.


I'm very interested to see how the scoring averages shake out over a larger sample once Hayward is back.  Hopefully Kemba, Jaylen, and Jayson stay healthy.

Because bench is younger and fewer shots by bigs, more shot opportunities for our Big 4. Possible for them all to average 20. Has that ever happened?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Most of our predictions from 2018 were off by one year.
