Markkanen is in a shooting slump and it's affecting his total game. Teams don't trade 22 year old big man prospects who averaged 19/9 at 21 simply because they are slumping or struggling to start their third year. Teams especially don't trade those type of prospects for the garbage that was in that article the OP linked to. Those trade proposals were preposterous.

Markkanen is most likely not available expect for a massive overpay, which I don't see the Celtics doing.

He's a soft player. Always has been. As someone said above, he fills no holes, other than some bench scoring. If everyone's healthy, he's on the bench, and no, he can't file Theis' role. Theis is a much tougher player, much better rebounder and defender.

If you trade for him, it's because you value him as an asset, possible predicate to a future deal, not because he fits the current team.

Rich man's Olynyk. I like his game, but he's nothing special.

The way I see it, the C's need a defensive big. Preferably someone who can stretch the floor as well. Markkanen can stretch the floor. He ain't a defensive big though. I don't think he'd be a good fit next to Tatum-Hayward.

Lauri has been hot garbage this year.  He's immensely talented but quite deferential and non-confrontational.  He also seems to easily lose confidence in himself.  This isn't a talent issue, this is all mental.

He's basically untradeable right now.  You don't give up on a prospect with this much talent but you probably shouldn't give up much for a guy who might have a serious limitation in terms of approach.

Not a good fit.

Celts need a defensive big.

Could we get Markkanen for Langford and a pick? These trades in this article are way worse that this....

https://dawindycity.com/2019/12/02/chicago-bulls-rumors-trade-packages-lauri-markkanen/
so those 3 proposals involve a late first rounder and possibly a end of rotation player as well as Chicago having to kick in a second rounder but yet you want give them a solid first round prospect (his ability to stay on the court not withstanding) and a pick?  That's ridiculously overpaying for a player that won't move the needle for us at all based on his stunted development

I think those trade proposals are real low ball offers. I think my offer was realistic and fair...
I disagree about it being fair for us.  it's an overpayment.

I don't disagree that those deals seem like lowball offers but based on his productivity this year, I can see why --> the team picking him up will have to start making decisions on picking up his 4th year (if Chicago didn't already) as well as determining if he's worth a contract extension.  To me, I think Langford has more value since this is his rookie year and has shown some real ability when he's gotten on the court.  I wouldn't do the trade straight up nevermind the C's throwing in a first rounder to boot
His 4th year is already picked up.  Teams have to pickup the 3rd year by the start of a player's 2nd season season and the 4th year by the start of a player's 3rd season.

He’s a good player who can score, shoot and rebound.  He’s not being traded for garbage. I suspect Minnesota would ask for the Memphis pick plus additional assets.

Adebayo and Markannen are names I've seen on here recently. These players are not going to be available for anything except stars.

Markkanen "on hyvaa isomies" (translates is a good big man).  Our current big depth is:

Theis
Kanter
Ojeleye
R Williams
G Williams
Poirier

I believe that Markkanen is an upgrade over any of them.  In his bad season, he is averaging 14/7.  Theis is out best big and he is at about 6/7.  Last season Lauri was 19/9.  Kanter and Theis are barely averaging 14/7 combined.  I know everyone wants to bring in a dominant defensive big (who wouldn't) but I would be happy with just a nice upgrade.

I can't imagine Chicago giving up on him so I am not getting my hopes up but I don't understand the people that don't even want him.

thanks for the info.  so, if making this deal, the C's would have to feel he's worth investing in for another season even though he's not the defensive presence the C's need at PF
