Hearing that one Cs move to keep an eye on tomorrow is Jabari Bird and cash being sent to another team to lower the Cs' tax bill and open a roster spot. Bird would then be waived by the team that was paid to acquire him. But his legal issues could still complicate matters a bit.

Yes, that's the one obvious move, I think.  The Celts can't really afford to wait and hope that the NBA suspends him before the end of the regular season; Bird's court case could drag on for several more months.

What all would we have to send out besides Bird to get under the luxury tax threshold?
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

They can have a 2nd round pick of the Celtics.  Those cant hold much value to us.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Haynes is reporting Bird has been traded to Atlanta for a pick that'll never convey. I'm not sure what's in it for Atlanta. Maybe they're getting cash but I'm not seeing that yet.

Huh, I would have thought that would at least net them a moderately-protected 2nd. Gotta at least be some cash involved, as you suggest.

TP to the OP for the prediction as well.

So this wasn't enough to get under the tax threshold correct?

Have the C's been supporting Bird in any way, or had they already distanced themselves awhile ago?

I think this can actually be a unique opportunity to win some goodwill with the locker room, especially with all the AD trade rumors swirling.

You hear about teams waiving injured players but still giving them complete access to the facilities, medical staff, and trainers, etc.  So this can maybe be like that.  Like how Keyon Dooling said Danny and Doc were there for him and his family every day while he was in the mental institution.  Bird, we traded you for business reasons, but we're still here to support you every day.  Could go a long way with guys like Brown (who were/are supposedly close with Bird),  helping them realize it's a business, but this is still a stand up organization you want to be a part of.

Assuming there's adequate ways to even support somebody in Bird's situation without condoning the actions he may be found guilty of.  Visits/calls probably do it.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

For all the talk about how Danny is a snake, and yes he's definitely cold blooded, I've always had the sense that he's a principled and decent guy and I think the players that have had relationships with him know that. Even IT sounds like he'd come back to Boston in a heartbeat and doesn't hold anything against Ainge.
