Well, he did go to college there and is a California native.
He will also live some 40-60 years after his playing career is over, so I wouldn't rule out Toronto just yet.

Just like I thought before the season, I still think that much of his decision will revolve around their playoff success.

I’m just not sure how much the playoffs will matter to him.

Whether they win the championship or get dusted in the second round, what’s it really mean? Do you think he wants to start a dynasty in Toronto? He IS the dynasty. They may have some nice pieces, but anything they do is because of Kawhi.

Put Kawhi on any other decent roster and they become a threat. Put him with a good roster and they are contenders. If he joins the Clippers, they will be every bit as good as the Raptors.

He actually bought a house in Toronto earlier this season though.  Why would he buy a house in Toronto if he had no intention of staying in Toronto?  Most players just rent a nice condo or house downtown if they get traded some where and they don't actually purchase a house.  I'd say that is a much bigger indicator of future intentions then a guy buying a home where he went to college which doesn't actually have a NBA team.

Side topic about this.

Joe Smith (who made $61m in his career) talking about being broke, said one of the problems that led him there was he bought a new house (for cash) in every city he went to and then had to sell at a loss when he moved onto the next city.

Just thinking about that makes my wallet hurt.  He went from GS to PHI to MIN to DET back to MIN to MIL to DEN back to PHI to CHI to CLE to OKC back to CLE to ATL to NJ to LA.  Ouch.  Even if he didn't actually buy (or sell for a loss) in every city, maybe just a 3rd of them, it's still a lot.

(I thought that whole episode was interesting, worth a watch if you like that kind of stuff, disappointed that they apparently only made one episode).

Now this doesn't apply to Kawhi, I've heard he's real smart with his money (drove an old car, used coupons and was upset when he lost them). But thought it's interesting to see NBA housing done wrong.

From someone that lives in socal, Staples and other lakers or clippers related sites are a LONG haul from San Diego.  No way is someone with Kawhi's wealth buying a house in San Diego because he is going to sign with an LA team.  This means about as much as if he bought a house in Puerto Vallarta.

That just sounds insane.  Why would you keep buying homes with cash?   Maybe buy a house or two in places you love and just get a nice condo in the city you are playing in?  Sometimes I can't believe the lack of common sense.
