The offense doesn't generate enough free throws.

Definitely an under-discussed issue.

Are you encouraged by the Bucks game, then? I am, though there's obviously more to the story.

Another way of saying they aren't going to the paint enough.

We don't play with enough energy and we settle for contested jumpshots. There's not enough discipline on the team.

I don't understand how our offense can be so shaky when you have Rozier, Irving, Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Morris, Horford, Theis and Baynes as your main rotation players. There's way too much quality on the team to accept these inconsistencies.

My solution:
  • Bench Rozier and only occasional play him to give Irving (a game) rest. I find Rozier a huge problem by his inability to run an offense and sharing the ball.
  • Keep Tatum on a leash. His shot selection is questionable and he looks selfish. More team ball, so therefore Tatum has to play as a 3-and-D guy. Gets him easier shots as well.

Also our defense inside is terrible, we give up way too many point in the paints by either letting people drive for a lay-up or being beaten in the post or by a offensive rebound.

My solution:
  • Play bigger. Horford has to go back to power forward, where he had much success last year. This season as the lonely big his play has been utterly poor. We also have to be careful with his minutes.
  • Always play with a rim protector. Baynes is a crucial part of our starting unit for defense. Now he's injured, so play Williams.

Where is the play of Terry Rozier and Jaylen Brown in that list?  It is the main reason they are not meeting expectations.

I’ve added the option of seeing Rozier’s playmaking as a big problem. If you think multiple young players are failing to adjust then you can click the option of “young guys having too much ego”.

I think it falls on the inconsistency from young guys but I voted other.  There's a strong argument to be made for riding out the season in order to learn more about the group as a whole.  I don't think the solution is as simple as "putting the young guys in their place".

Do the young guys understand and appreciate how difficult it is to win in the NBA?  Probably not.
Is the desire for individual success, mainly by the young guys, interfering with team chemistry? Yes
Does this make these players abnormal from 95% of the lottery talent in the NBA? Nope

Sure, Danny Ainge could consolidate talent in order to make the 2019 Celtics a better team.  The problem is that we would need to win quickly in order to justify these types of moves.  I'd rather ride things out and see how this group responds in the playoffs.  It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the young guys sacrifice their stats in a do or die scenario.

We also might run into a scenario where we lose in a game 7 on the road against a team like the Bucks or Raptors.  A situation like this should lead to a lot of reflection for the entire team.  Failure is often the best learning experience for young players.
