Really good story here about Steph taking some time to promote STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). It's really heartening to see people with HUGE platforms taking things like scientific consensus and technological development, that are currently under attack worldwide, and really fighting back against disinformation, conspiracy theory, and anti-intellectualism. And the kicks look pretty dope too.

Can't wait for someone else to get on board, ahem, ahem.

What are you waiting for? You don't have to be a ball player to make a difference if you care that much.

Any step is helpful.  At the same time, Curry has earned over $250 million in past and future earnings.  If he really cared about the issue, couldn't he do better than a pair of shoes?  Especially since it was his conspiracy-oriented "joke" that caused the anti-intellectual blowback in the first place?

Maybe that's an overly cynical view, but this just rubs me the wrong way a bit:

Quote
"One of the most effective ways to set our children up for success is to ensure they receive excellent STEM education," Curry said. "Ayesha and I are passionate about making sure that STEM education is accessible and available to all children in the Bay Area."

If you're "passionate", is a pair of shoes the best you can do?

I agree with you. Steph almost never gets negative publicity, so I think he's trying to compensate for the blowback.

I agree. This whole thing smells of brand damage control. His comments caused all the anti-intellectual blow back and it was negative publicity for his brand. So suddenly he is going to auction off a pair of sneaks for $25000 and that shows his commitment to STEM education?

I am not buying it. If he was committed to helping STEM education in the Bay area he would be setting up some sort of foundation or non-profit to consistently raise money and awareness for STEM education and advocate for changes to help promote better STEM education quality.

Obviously this is a PR move. But even he benefits somewhat it is still a good thing.

This thread was meant to throw shade at Kyrie. Don't just disavow flat earth theory - actually do something, anything, which buries the notion, and helps people trying to debunk conspiracy theories and promote intellectualism to get more exposure.

Ahhh, never mind. All them threads can't all be winners.

P.S Curry sucks, and I hate the Warriors more than most teams.

I got what you were saying. But instead of throwing shots or trying to dictate what Kyrie - or any athlete because they don't owe anyone anything - should do with their resources, start up a grassroots movement and do it yourself if you care that much.
