When Pitino dumped Radja I was fine with it.  He couldn't play defense and as a result could never be a key part of a good NBA team.  He wasn't much in this league.  Good international career.  His NBA career was nothing to write home about.

I dunno, he had his flaws but he also averaged 20/10 at his peak and 17/8 for his (short) NBA career. I guess it depends what we're comparing against but he was talented enough to play for most any team when he returned to Europe. Health concerns loomed large as he was turning 30 and had only played 78 games in 2 years.

Yeah, I just about completely disagree with this. A guy who was basically a 20/10 guy should not be dumped. One of many terrible moves

The Sixers voided a trade for Radja because he couldn't pass a physical.  He was done in the NBA (too many games for him to ever really stay healthy).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

20/10 for a crappy team.  He never moved the needle in terms of making the Celtics better. Granted he didn't suck but keeping him around wasn't going to make any difference. Pitino was going to change the team so there was no way Radja was staying.

It's not as if we got better without him. We didn't have a winning season until '01-'02. His health was a reason to move him (as Moranis pointed), but it was rather unceremonious
