Thought this was interesting

Quote
Bender delivered the pass to Chandler, who threw home a rim-rattling dunk over the Grizzlies' Brandan Wright with 0.4 seconds to go.

"My job was to punch it in. It was close," said Chandler, who finished with seven points and six rebounds. "It might have hit the back rim, but I caught it over the cylinders because I knew there was no goaltending."

Officials, however, had to review the play, as it appeared that Chandler goaltended to get the ball home. As it turns out, there's no goaltending rule in that situation.

"I was trying to create a play where you could score with like three-tenths of a second or something, and I thought tonight was a good time to do it," Suns interim coach Jay Triano said. "I put it on about two or three days after I took over the job here, and it's a rule that a lot of people don't know. You cannot goaltend a ball that isn't going to count, so I told our guys, 'Shoot the ball in the basket, and all Tyson has to do is touch it on the way down or grab the rim and have it hit your knuckle on the way in.' I asked the officials when they come and do their clinics and seminars with the coaches, I asked them that 15 years ago when I was in Toronto. I asked them about it, and they had to go back and look at it, and I've tried to keep it a secret, and it's not a secret anymore."

Wow that's a new one. Well executed. I know Tyron Lue must have known about that rule  :D

Nice pass by Bender there.

Yeah, that was all about the pass - fantastic - I already assumed that type of play was allowed. Why allow Chandler anywhere near the rim? Great job by the Suns to pick up another win, too!  :)

I saw the play, but the story makes it even neater.  It’s also yet another reminder that players and coaches don’t tank.  Triano has wanted to use the play for a decade — he didn’t save it for a winning season.  He used it to eke out a win against another bad team in late December for a team that won’t win much more than 30 games.

In fairness, he's an interim coach, so he has a lot of incentive to show he can help a team win close games in the hope that somebody will offer him a long term position.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

which seems to reinforce the previous poster's point.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Yes and no.  Guys playing/coaching for future jobs aren't exactly the same thing as long term established guys.  Cuban basically admitted the Mavericks tanked last year (and they appear to be tanking this year also).  The Sixers tanked for 3 seasons.  Plenty of teams have tanked for shorter periods of time.  Those teams generally have coach buy in to the tank (that doesn't mean the coach intentionally throws a game, but it also doesn't mean they are necessarily coaching to win).

Nice

I guess the opposite holds true too then (defense could knock it out of the rim).
Yup

Celtics and Rick Patino ran that play from behind the basket with Jerome Moiso his rookie year.  It worked.  Don't think it was a game winner though.
