Calling it now.

We've been on a tear over the past 8 games and we're getting it done defensively, impressively with one of the youngest rosters in the NBA and with only 4 returning players from last year.  We lead the league in PPG allowed (a meager 93.8 PPG allowed according to ESPN stats) and are top 5 in opposing FG% and opposing 3-pt FG%.  Barring significant injuries, I see little reason why our defensive dominance won't continue especially now that both Morris and Smart are healthy after missing some time.  And we're likely to earn the top seed in the East - we have the best team point differential in the league (which correlates directly with a team's record) at +9.7 which is even better than Golden State at the moment.  All of this after losing an All-Star in Gordon Hayward just 5 minutes into the season.

I know that there's a lot of the season left and we're bound to hit a few rough patches as every team does.  But I couldn't be more impressed with Stevens and our players to this point of the season.

If we keep winning and Kyrie continues his development then Coach Stevens has a shot at it.

It's pretty phenomenal.
After the Hayward injury they took a 1/2 game to regroup, downshifted, hit the gas and here we are.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
With the Hayward injury as well as all of the roster turnover, I don't see how he doesn't as long as the Cs finish in like the top 4 of the conference. Heck, even Spoelstra finished in the top 3 last year and the Heat didn't even make the playoffs.

Stevens has been a top level coach for a couple of years now. I get that he has had to work his way up, but this is a feel good story even if you hate the Cs.

Looking like the early frontrunner for CoY.

I was about to post the same thing. TP.

I mean, look at that box score from tonight and the production he is getting from these guys on both ends. Especially on defense.

It’s a long season but this is a hell of a start for a team that had its guts ripped out five minutes into the year.

the thought crossed my mind today, and then this thread goes up. Must mean there are a number of people thinking the same thing.

If the Celtics sniff 50 wins after losing Hayward, he should be a lock.

If the C's repeat on top of the east, or even come really close and have 50+ wins he'll have a very strong case.

One of the surprising playoff teams will be the other strong candidates. Vogel is an example if the Magic get the 6th seed say and are above .500.
