Who will be our 2nd All Star this year after Kyrie?

my first reaction was "no one" but then I took a moment to think who else would likely fill out the East roster with Kyrie.   
Lebron, obvious.
Giannis - pretty much a lock
Wall - probably.
Porzingis - starting off great.
After those 4, who's really setting the league on fire to be assured a spot on that roster?

Simmons and Embiid will probably get some votes.  Love probably gets some too.  Derozan and Beal probably balancing each other out.

I would not be surprised to see both Horford and Brown get nods - particularly if Brad is the coach in the East.

Gordon

Fournier

Just based on performance to date, not reputation.

Just no respect to Horford, and it saddens me how unappreciated he is on his board.

Yes, his contract is considered by some, an albatross, but try hitting up Magic or Raptors, and they'll squeal with joy to have to deal with Horford's 'weaknesses,' on their team.

Horford and Kyrie are my picks, and I think Jaylen may sneak in, if he can maintain similar averages consistently.

If Brown keeps playing this way and his FT % approached "respectable" he will make the All-Star team.


I don't expect all the young players mentioned from bad teams to keep up their current pace so some of the players mentioned I think will drop off.  (Talking about young bad teams were more then one player is being discussed)

I'm pretty sure, as long as our fans turn out to vote, Horford and Kyrie are both locks.

I was actually thinking last night that, if we somehow manage to fight for the top seed (it looks wide open and we have just as good of a shot as anyone), Brown might get looks too. Although the noise around Brown would have to grow for that to happen.

But the East is weak. Weirder All-stars have been named in the east (Ray Felton, Gerald Wallace, Jameer Nelson, Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, Jrue Holliday, Luol Deng, Roy Hibbert, Mo Williams, Devin Harris, etc.).

Again, we'd have to be competing for the 1 seed and Brown would have to have a few big games that pick up the noise around him. But there is like a 10% that could happen.

If we're still the #1 team in the East by then, then Irving and Horford will be on the team and there'll be talk of how Brown is a snub.

Competition for All Star spots might be harder than some seem to think. Yes, Butler, George, Anthony and Millsap left the East, but a lot of young players have made strides.

Beal and Porter on the Wizards are getting recognition, the Magic are doing surprisingly well with Fournier and Gordon (though he'll regress), Oladipo is carrying the Pacers, Porzingis is putting up big numbers and Simmons and Embiid are in the spotlights from the get-go.

Besides that, reputations matter and Brown has none. I'm not impressed so far by the play of neither Lowry or DeRozan but if Toronto has a respectable record probably at least one them will get a place. I think 12 of the next 15 players will make the All-Star team and that mostly based on reputation and team record the close decisions will be made.

The way I view it is Kyrie is a lock, Horford is likely going to make the team, and Jaylen has an outside shot at making it if he continues to play the way he has been with a couple of signature games peppered in throughout the season.

It's hard to see Jaylen breaking into that group, if he stays in the 16-18 ppg range, unless he has another breakthrough to 20+ ppg territory. Or unless players like Oladipo and Gordon regress. That's gonna be his main competition for Most Improved, too.

Jaylen will be the centerpiece of the Sophmore/Freshman game and will get his day next year.

I'd love to see Jaylen matched up with Jayson in the rookie sophomore challenge- skills and shooting vs. athleticism and penetrate / corner 3 game.

If he keeps it up, it HAS to be Horford. And it will be well-deserved.
