"please let kg kill this deal"

"Taking on Gerald Wallace and his terrible contract seems like an awful decision by Danny."

"if KG and Pierce are traded, i’m afraid that the Celtic Pride would fade.. other than those two, there are no other Celtic in the current roster who knows what Celtic Pride is.."

"Horrible trade
Yes PP & KG had to be moved on for some value but that does NOT automatically make this a good trade. Likewise DA may have other moves in the pipeline but again that doesn’t change the imbalance of this trade.
So what are we getting for our two quality Vets + that clown / cheerleader hybrid?

1) GERALD WALLACE!! – Bill Simmons did his take on the 30 worst NBA contracts a couple of months back and only Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudemire were ranked worse than GW. Add in that he’s not only bad but getting worse RAPIDLY and you have a very big stink on your hands for 3 years at $10 m a pop. In case you don’t get the impact of this it’s over 17% of our cap space gone on some bust!! Don’t forget he can’t be amnestied and we are only trading him if we can make it sweet for the other team (i.e. add in pick or lopsided the deal).
2) The Picks – Ah the picks, that are getting us all excited. Problem is that for the hot draft (2014) it’s going to be low as the Nets have a quality starting 5 now. For the other drafts I am not buying that they will be on the slide by then – Prokhorov will spend well over the salary cap and NYC is a FA destination, this is not the banker everyone says it is.
3) The other Scrubs – Oddly the best part of the deal, Evans is a solid / cheap role player and Humphries at least has the decency to be expiring by the end of the year. Would have been tasty had we got Tonko but Kris Joseph is a d-leaguer who we liked so much we moved him on 12 months ago.

This is not a good return for some ageing Vets

Also some fortune tellers:

"Without completely over analyzing it, I think by doing this for the Nets, he forces their hand, and at the same time creates and “arms-race” in the Eastern Conference and trust someone does something stupid like put KEVIN LOVE; AL HORFORD; etc etc on the market"

""perennial contender"????? Umm... no.
The Nets should be a very good contender … for one year. Two year’s tops.

Pierce is under contract for one year. He could be back on the C’s next season.

KG has two years and could retire after one.

So the chances that those guys play in 2015-2016 for the Nets is pretty much zilch.

Meanwhile, the Nets have about 62M of their cap space in that season committed to just three players: Joe Johnson, Lopez and D-Will. And D-Will has bad ankles.

The rest of that team is going to be made up of minimum contract scrubs by then.

There is a VERY good chance that the Nets suck real bad that season.

I was skeptical about the trade because I liked the players so much but knew the picks were gold

I hated it at first but knew it had to be done.

Danny reportedly was begging Red back in the early 90s to trade Larry for Chuck Persons and Herb Williams. He also pushed Red to trade Kevin for Detlef Shrempf and Sam Perkins.

Danny is a Gambler, period.

"Gotta know when to hold em...know when to fold em.....know when to walk away....know when to run...."

This makes him one of the best GMs out there. It also absolves him of emotions when doing his job.

At the end of the day the name on the jersey (CELTICS) matters...I know that - even if it makes me still miss IT4 and Jae.

My gut is that IT will get CLOSE to his Brinks...and Jae will remain a good defender AND glue guy and one day get a good raise as well. Past history with PP34 and KG, as well as Perk and Rondo - shows that Jae and IT will fair well down the road.

I know that Danny Ainge loves the Celtics...he wore the jersey and was an All-Star at one time as well as scrappy in-your-face player. He also won TWO Banners as a player and ONE Banner as a GM (so far).

He also fought Trees

At the end of the day I trust ANYONE who tackles a 7'1" 260 pound old-school center. He, no doubt, uses that same fearlessness in doing his deals to this day.

I could never do his job because of the emotional attachments but Danny's got this.

I loved the trade and I love the Irving trade as well.
Danny is very good.

Man I cringe whenever people bring up Celtic Pride as if that's some kind of tangible attribute in determining a player's trade value.

A fair amount of Danny's moves may not look too great at first but wind up great in hindsight. This deal was the best example of what Danny likes to make: The right trade. I hated giving up KG and Paul, but everyone knew their time was just about up. The only reason why we wanted to keep them around was because of what they had done in the past, but Danny didn't care.  While we would have loved to see them end their careers as Celtics, Danny knew the team would have suffered for it.

Danny made it clear years ago that if he had ran the Celtics in the late 80s, he would have traded Bird and Mchale while their values were still high because he believed it should have been in the team's best interest, and he meant it. That's why he traded KG, Pierce, Perk, Toine, and IT among others. He appreciated what they did, but he knew keeping them wasn't what was best for the team in the long-run.

I predict a few years from now, we're going to look at some of the negative reactions from the IT-Kyrie trade, and we're going to laugh at those too.

I wouldn't call it "begging". That would change the entire story and would've probably caused a strain on his relationship with Bird and McHale.

"First of all, it's a different era," Ainge told The Globe. "I sat with Red (Auerbach) during a Christmas party (in the 1990s). Red was talking to Larry, Kevin, and myself and there was a lot of trade discussion at the time, and Red actually shared some of the trade discussions. And I told Red, what are you doing? Why are you waiting?

"He had a chance to trade Larry (to Indiana) for Chuck Person and Herb Williams and (Steve) Stipanovich and he had a chance to trade Kevin (to Dallas) for Detlef Schrempf and Sam Perkins. I was like, 'Are you kidding?' I mean, I feel that way now. If I were presented with those kind of deals for our aging veterans, it's a done deal to continue the success."

If you don't call that "begging" Eddie then I guess we see things different.

Sounded like Ainge - even back then - had a sense of urgency.

Thank God Red didn't listen.

A package of Herb Williams, Chuck Persons, Sam Perkins, Detlef Shrempf and Steve Stepanovich would've been just good enough to probably keep us around 500 - and miss out later in the 90s on getting Paul Pierce.
